Eligium: The Chosen One - Shutting down

You can read the official statement here

https://forum.eligium.com/showthread.php?t=20680

"we have come to the conclusion that ELIGIUM does not fully meet the high expectations of Frogster as a publisher."

Ummmmm how bad was that game if RoM is still up and running.
What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

I think he/she meant they tried beta for 2 days, didn't like it and left.

I played the game for a month or two.

I enjoyed it.

I stopped playing once they made the ingame bot inaquireable (well the full version and the only version worth it IMO) by gold. Many quests after level 36 required you to kill 80+ (I had seen quests requiring kills of 120 mobs... probably keeps going up) mobs. Its not like ROM where you can one shot them, you have to use your rotation a good two times. This was just terrible questing and without the bot, I just quit.

Also, their "tiering" process was free and cheap and easy in beta (but still had its "downfalls) but then they pulled a frogster and made you have to pay money.

Yup.

I also tried the beta, game play just wasn't as good as it could be. Think I played a total of a week hoping it would improve with leveling, but finally concluded that it was about as good as it was getting.

Mythos, Eligium...

Frogster graveyard becomes crowded. TERA reserved a grave already.:p

Tera is Froggy's new baby, and runs better than RoM, so Froggy will cradle it and give it all its love and care for a year or 2, so the grave will have to wait.

Well, Eligium is a Frog game, so its all right, and there's no way to "advertise" (which is usually why other game threads gets closed quickly) a game thats closing down anyway.

It had pandas... Anything with pandas is going to fail. What's next a teddy bear MMO where you have cute cuddly bears fighting dragons and trolls. Please, no one roll with that idea.

Froggys new game Tera has cute teddy bears as playable races, and its working pretty well. I don't think they call it teddy bears though.

Care Bears the MMO... somehow I don't see much PvP happening there.

Though not with bears, there is something along those lines out there. The Lego MMO (whatever it's called). Designed with kids in mind sooo...

Correction, that one closed too. Forgot about that, but it did exist for a brief time

Always is sad to see a game die. Though i never played the game, there are people who liked it. They better not close RaiderZ, looks like fun :)

Yeah Lego Universe, sub based $10 per month, my son played it till his grades slipped and I pulled the plug (literally took the wireless card out of his PC)

It wasn't cute and cuddly which is why it didn't last, my daughter looked at it and said it was stupid. I guess if you make a MMO for kids and even adults you need to make it gender neutral. ROM will always win with women cause here they can be hotchie mommas, rather then just "Mom"

Sugar coated pink hearts and sickly sweet gelatin strewn about as far as the eye can see! ...<shudder>... The Horror!

Not sure cute and cuddly would have made it work either. I think they were banking on the success of the Lego based single player console games.

As for making games gender neutral, I don't think that is the answer either. More like the game design needs to take into account the fact that different people and genders view their entertainment differently. In my non-expert experience, women tend to want some reason for going out and slaughtering pixelated creatures. Pretty much any flimsy excuse will do as long as they can justify it in some way. For men, you can simply point them to an opponent and they'll happily go attack them (I'm talking about games and game stories here, not real life).

The difference can be expressed with the following (tongue in cheek) example.
Men:
NPC: There are monsters over there!
Male Player: To War! <bash>...<slice>...<p0wnz>...Lolz!!1!!
Women:
NPC: There are monsters over there!
Female Player: So?
NPC: They're scaring the kids!
Female Player: Then ask them to stop.
NPC: They eat shoes and want to ban chocola...
Female Player: TO WAR!!!! <bash>...<slice>...<p0wnz>...Lay-off my chocolate!
2013... The year from hell....

I am the same, tried that game. I tried several free games and even played diablo 3, but still came back here. I enjoy this game.
