It would be fun with a race that already exists in the world. I would suggest kobold. They seem to be everywhere and they are fun to deal with. Also they have some culture and they come in different sizes and have different abilities, including magic.

As a new class I would love to play necromancer. It would be really fun to be able to raise dead enemies as zombies or skeletons and have them as pets. It would also be fun if you could mind-control weak enemies and have them as pets.

i was thinking if runes of magic were to make a new race witch could tie n to the story i would suggest a non humanoid race or some race that used to be humanoid and got screwed up by a main boss they could use for the patch also i read the mushroom idea and i completly agree

I vote Nagas.
Nagas exist and have their own land, culture (slaughtering non-Nagas), and cal allow for antagonist roles in questing.
Tiktaaliks could also make for a feasible implementation. Due to area constraints, these races should be unlockable after the player has reached certain points with another character for the same server.

I vote capra. they have their own backstory, culture, are friedndly to humans and elves, They even already have a good starting zone just need to change a few lines of dialog

i think we need good and evil race for the next chapter, like drow" dark elfs" and dwarfs, make it so you can make one after you make a lvl 30 char to add balance.

That sounds a lot like WoW. Remember that most of the people here want to separate us from WoW.

On another note: What about specialized races? Like having one that moves faster, so its good for scouts. Or having a race with higher strength, but lower defense? I am talking races here, not classes.

Races

I can't seem to understand why people are harsh on orcs. I think it would be awsome to have an orc and troll race. I also think that there should be diffrent elven classes. For example

Netrual Elf- Elf
Good Elf- High Elf
Evil Elf- Dark Elf

and same thing for wizards

Netrual-Wizard
Good-Blue Wizard
Evil-Black Wizard

Each could support thier own spells, and thier own type, for example, you could be a Fire Mage, Ice Mage, Water Mage, Earth Mage, Or an Elemental Mage

Yeah i vote naga too because they are cool and their weapon can be spear imagine an army of nagas with spear attacking a city it would be awesome! :cool:

And they can have magical power like water, they can trap monsters in a hole of water and then attack them... Yeah it would be awesome

I vote dwarves too because they are cool with 2h axe and they r in almost every mmo, they could have their own catacombs,under citys, like subways grotto and sub-grounds with a lot of corridors,etc.. :cool:

When you point someone with a finger 3 of them will pointing you...

Bearing in mind that the playable races in this game are GOOD, the next playable race should follow this model. How about 4 inch tall brownies? Of course, their riding critters would have to be proportionate to their size. Like, maybe, grasshoppers. Or birds. Or oversized garden snails. Wait, I know. Rabbits. Four inch tall brownies riding pink nosed rabbits. And wielding oversized sewing needles.

I second this opinion whole-heartedly. It's something that's already there in the game, and I think that the Sascilia Steppes are kind of ignored. I mean, there's a fun level 20-ish instance in there that I don't think I've ever heard advertised. And like Grup said, you'd just need to change a few lines in their dialogues based on the player race. It would be a little work, but it would be easier than creating an entirely new starting area.
I vote that they get a unique take on the Warrior / Rogue classes, in the way that Elves got a new take on the Priest / Knight classes. (I know that a Warden can't really take the same place as a Knight, but the parallels are obvious.)

What about constructs?

Like the ones that almost wiped out everything in the backstory?
The player characters could be a group of them that "malfunctioned" and gained minds of their own/the ability to discern right from wrong/decided to rebel against the others.

The female versions could look like robotic mannequins (so diamond shop costumes still look good on them) and the males could be more machine like (but should still have somewhat of a humanoid physique for the costumes again)

also I like the mushroom idea... either make them tiny and cutesy... or make em look like funguy from Chrono Cross
