With the state that RoM is currently in, its been hard for me to find the motivation not only to continue playing RoM but also keep the TOP-50 site alive. A total lack of free time has only compounded the issue.

What does the TOP-50 site actually provide to the RoM community? What does it mean to be in the top 10? Top 25? Top 50? Is siege war a viable metric by which to compare guilds?

I hope, for the sake of the community, that RoM starts living up to its potential very soon. There is no reason for me to go full on gangbusters programming the TOP-50 site with new features if the quality of the game its based off of continues on a downward spiral.

I don't blame you for a fraction of a second.

On an unrelated note, I'm not sure if it's your back end for data entry or your actual site, but something doesn't appear to support non standard characters in guild names.

Is the lack of win/loss history related to the temporary database update thing?

So glad it's going to be easier to update now! Yay!

At the moment, only Google Chrome and Apple Safari are showing those names properly. (On Win7) Firefox and IE will not.

This is very irritating. I'm trying to pin down the cause. The database and backend both show these characters correctly. Its only when rendered in a browser (other than chrome/safari) that these guild names are getting trashed. It also has the nasty side effect of breaking the page navigation for any guild using special characters in their name.

For now, if you want to see those guild names properly you'll have to use Chrome or Safari.

Yup. The new backend uses an entirely new script. I *could* have shoehorned the new system into the old one but it would have taken longer to get the site back on its feet and it would have been messy. (code wise)

As soon as I resolve the issue mentioned above, my next goal is to reincorporate all that old data back into the system.

Update

-Bugfix: The issue of guild names with special characters not being show correctly has been resolved. The names should now be visible by every browser on the planet that supports UTF-8 encoding. (which is 99.9% of them)

I plan on starting up an EU version of the TOP-50 site, soonish.

Wow, I didn't think you guys had the time or resources to work on the EU side. Are you still manually entering the data?

I really miss having all that history, back to the 31st of August. It was really helpful to evaluate opponents. Any chance of getting that added back in there?

Yup. Working on it now. I had to fix the issue with the guild names being all wonky before I could merge the old data with the new.

Guilds with special characters in their name, like Ragnarok, were saved differently in the old database.

for example:

Ragnarok(Reni) was saved as just plain old Ragnarok in the old database. Its saved as Ragnarok (with the funky "o") in the new database using utf-8 encoding. This might seem like a trivial matter but it has the potential to make the site unusable due to database corruption if not handled properly.

I don't have an ETA on this yet. I'm currently scrubbing the image archive for guilds with special characters in their name and creating a list.

Ragnarok and its assets take no responsibility for any damage and or loss of contents within the Top 50 Siege War database, and expressly disclaim any liability whatsoever for any loss howsoever arising from or in reliance upon the whole or any part of the contents of Top 50 Siege War database.

LOL Welsh! the funky "o" is Indo-European o-stems, true origins are a mystery and still debated till this day. ;)

P.S. Thanks for fixing it on the database, you two are awsome! :) the o-stems don't work in this forum... :(

He kept me awake bitching at his laptop trying to fix that damned "o" and other assorted strange characters for about 2 hours.

So for all those guilds out there using funky characters, Thank you for my current lack of sleep!!
"Shakes fist in sleepless anger"

on another note,
Should he choose to put the archived photos from pre-script days(a whole week ago) back in I've been peiceing them together in my spare time. In the event he does, and I'd rather like to think he will...or he's sleeping on the damn couch.....We'll have the archival photos from the induction of T50 up to I believe the 22nd when the script was first used.

With the use of the new script to pull the info directly through the client updating takes no longer than 1 min, per region (US/EU/AU/other countries or regions that have "U" in them).

The EU version wont be up until he resolves some issues with the current version of T50, although he has been keeping SW data for EU for the past few days so that when "Top 50 European Servers" hits they will have a back log of data up. Lucky them.

UPDATE

-The older siege data has been merged into the new database. Most of the special character guild names have been updated so their historical record will show correctly. (With exception to one guild. see below.)

ISSUES/BUGS

-The data from 10-13 to 10-21 still needs to be manually keyed in. This is next on my list of TO-DOs. (I needed to alter the old names before being able to do this.)

-I was unable to fully merge the guild Zhanqishi(Indigo) old siege data with the new database. The info is in the database, just under the old non-special character name ZHANQISHI. You'll have to look up their old siege info using the "New/Inactive" tab if the need arises.

Just a quick heads up, Typha has been getting the "lost" SW data (13-23) entered in and it *should* show back up on the site with in the next few days. I believe he is averaging around 2 days worth a night. Once he has all the missing days in the site will be updated and the site should at that point be completely up to date.

A shout out to the community, We seem to be missing data for the 20th and 21st. We are currently looking through our computers to see if we've misplaced it or not. If any one by any chance took screens for those days even partial screens, PLEASE let us know. Contact either my self or Typha/Welshde with any info/screens you may have.

Big Thanks again guys for your continued support!
