Roleplay? - Please Explain

I understand the idea in Roleplay-servers is to be given special tasks/quest which are beyond the scope of non-Roleplay-servers. I created a few toons on Govinda to see what is implemented by RoM, but ...

I could find no difference at all from non-Roleplay servers.

What am I missing? Can someone on a Roleplay-server please explain with specifics.

I'm afraid you're confusing the concept of a server and a guild.

Two very different things.

It has never been stated anywhere that Govinda is a roleplay server, nor when you select Govinda on the server selection screen does it say anything other than PVE.

We indeed do not have dedicated RP-servers.

Usually it means to stay in character, so you will play your character in game always within the biography and game background. Every time you want to post something out of character you usually use designated OOC channels (if the game provides RP-servers) or flag your chat as OOC by adding for example brackets around the text, like:

Dionaea: I might have no eyes but my tentacles will find you and crush you!
Dionaea: ((afk real quick, my phone is ringing))

(Lame one, I know ^^ lack of coffee)

So here in Runes of Magic it basically means to find other players or guilds or simply play your char totally in character. There are no dedicated quest-lines or special quests for role-players. Content-wise each server is the same, it is your way of playing that defines if you are a role-player or not. :) It really depends on the guild you join or the people you play with, if you want to stay in character all the time. It is not mandatory by choice of server in Runes of Magic. And to stay fair, since we have no dedicated RP-servers, you might find some players to be confused if you stay in character all the time. But our community is very inventive to host tavern events and such :) A perfect time to show who you really are in game ^^

Are you saying that Roleplay consists of each individual developing an additional story-line for themselves with no limits, verification or controls? They then join a Guild whose members support each other's unique story-lines. Regardless, roleplaying has absolutely NO EFFECT on game play.

Not by features offered in game, no. Quest-lines will not change or offer different rewards, if that is what you mean.

It is more of a social feature and to me personally (since I am a role-player) it enriches my game experience, especially when I am with a group of other role-players :)

The experience you're looking for would be [Edit: in other games who support RP-servers and RP-features] where the story-line does change by your original choices and ones you make throughout. This game is really good but in the aspect of roleplaying in Runes of Magic it is sort of dying because many players are tryin to get to the top and not play the game :( (Their reasons are legit though)

If you're dead set on RoM Roleplay I suggest going to Reni ( I can't help you with that but pm Endorknight or whatever his name was :P)

I hope I'm not breaking the rules for suggesting another game :P

Dionaea I wassn'ttttttttt I promiseeeeeeeee :P

Role-Playing FAQ and Guide

Quoted from "Dionaea;528387"

Does an FAQ or Guide on Roll-Playing exist? If so, where?

If not, it might be helpful for both newbies considering role-playing and those completely ignorant.
Perhaps someone who is currently a role-player and feels "it enriches my game experience" might
consider creating such a FAQ/Guide ;) It could include topics like:

  • What is Role-Playing?
  • How Role-Playing enriches the game experience
  • Differences between RoM Role-Playing and other implementations
  • Creating your initial background story line
  • Enhancing your background story line
  • Finding a Role-Playing Guild
  • How to go OOC (Out of Character)
  • Which RoM servers are best for Role-Playing?
  • Creating Events for Role-players

What do you think?

If you REALLY wanna RP like that, you can have a high-level toon (LVL 60-70) dress up in normal-looking clothing(For instance, the starter cloth set from Hending Harbor :P), RP as if they were living in an open-house village (Silverfall, Boulderwind, Static Lathrofea, etc.) and assign quests, with gold and item rewards, as well as perhaps XP/TP orbs for a certain amount, however they would have to aaste dias on tons of unbinders, advanced aggies... Yeah, RoM needs more RP support.
Ithiriz(Osha M/R/W 50/30/25), Saerimuus (Osha Wd/D 12/1), and some other Elf, Osha D/S 13/10, not to mention a few random characters on random servers that I made but that you probably won't ever see.

Perhaps someone who is currently a role-player and feels "it enriches my game experience" might
consider creating such a FAQ/Guide ;) It could include topics like:

  • What is Role-Playing? Role playing is taking on a persona and acting it our through your character. In RoM you are limited by what the game allows.
  • How Role-Playing enriches the game experience Many people feel that by roleplaying you can enrich the experience by creating a more in depth story that is easier to become absorbed in.
  • Differences between RoM Role-Playing and other implementations It depends on what you mean by Other Implementations. Other games are the same as RoM, only limiting your character by what the game allows. Text based roleplaying (Like in chat rooms) is only limited by what the owners of the room allow and do not allow
  • Creating your initial background story line Thats perty self explanitory
  • Enhancing your background story line Same here. Although some say more detail is better, others less. Personally i say more.
  • Finding a Role-Playing Guild Ask around
  • How to go OOC (Out of Character) Going OOC is simply done by using some sort of signal. Some people say "OOC:" Before their messages, others use )), }}, ]], ~ (It doesn't always have to be 2 characters)
  • Which RoM servers are best for Role-Playing? This really depends on your style, if you want a fairly closed RP, PVE servers would be the best, for something more open ended PVP.
  • Creating Events for Role-players Sadly this comes down to the individual group or guild and is limited by, again, what the game does and does not allow.

What do you think?

I've been a text based roleplayer for over 10 years, not including D&D and the various MMO's i've played on RP servers, so my bounty of knowledge is at your disposal if you'd like. Send me a PM with any questions you might have.

Roleplaying is when one person, or a group of people commit heinous acts against the human race.

There are plenty guides to roleplaying. Even by searching on google. There were roleplaying guides here on the forums but since the forum update, alot of posts seem to have dissappeared.

The best I could say is look on google about roleplaying or look at Wowwiki and search roleplaying. that will give you the best definitition of roleplaying in terms of on an mmorpg game.

You got confused about Govinda being the UNOFFICIAL roleplay server. Meaning its not officially a roleplay server. But its been reknown around other players to be the main server for roleplayers to meet and play.
Im just coming back to the game after a long break and planning on roleplaying myself. As I myself am a full time roleplayer.

Its not so much as making up your own stories and quests/events for your characters, as it is playing as your character in the game world, and having your characters story and personality incorperate in how you play that character in the game world and how that character interacts with others.
