what channel should I choose?

Or does it even matter? I'm a new player to the server. Just wanted to know if a certain channel has more players communicating or is more active compared to the others.

Let me know more when you can, thanks.

For now, I'm just going to select channel 1 most of the time.

The channel is irrelevant - just a way fr the server to separate the population a bit. I tend to always choose channel 1 though cos when certain events come along, the event NPC's are on channel 1 only. :D

Alright, thanks for the info. I'll just stay in channel 1 so I wont miss out on special events. I try to do most of the fun things like that even in other games too.

As Inferiority said, channel choice is usually irrelevant--the "default" tends to be the channel which has the least current load when you log in.

And yes, most of the events take place in channel 1, along with certain NPCs that are placed in-game from time to time. However, chat channels span all of the channels and if you party up with someone or join an established party or raid, you need to be in the same channel they're in if you want to see and interact with them. This does not apply to instances, just to the open world in general.

However, chat channels span all of the channels...

Strictly speaking, not true.

"Zone" and "Say" chat are specific to whichever channel you play on, be it 1, 2 or 3. "World", "Party" & "Guild" along with any custom chats will span the server channels.

Interesting stuff happens inside instances with the "Zone" chat. The "Zone" chat will span all of that instance meaning that several parties all within their own copy of that instance can talk to each other in "Zone" chat and share any tactics or comments. This behaviour also occurs inside your House - you can use the "Zone" chat to talk to others who are inside their own houses.

It has been awhile, but in the past you were able to communicate to Silverspring through zone chat while inside of FA. I do not think that is possible anymore though. I think it was a ch 1 glitch.

That indeed used to be the case - I managed to pick up Many an unlooted Evil Dragon or Rune Warrior piece from Zone Chat in Dust Devil Canyon.

However, since it is no longer the case, I didn't mention it.
