So if sometimes they say something that doesn't seem appropriate... can you really blame them?
I'm not justifying what he said, not at all, but as a former player that once was in your position i would stop there for a second and try to understand their position and give them some credits for their work.
I'm quoting Mika not because I'm replying to him, but because I want to stress something that is really important in regards to Mentors. They are some of the best people you will get to talk to even though they are not paid. And the reason is exactly that: because they're not paid. Mentors do not have to sugar-coat situations or use vague responses like paid staff are sometimes required to do. Paid staff officially represent the company and as such, their words are far more important. I can say that one of the downfalls of being a Community Manager is that you can't always be as frank and honest with your communities as you would like to be. Mentors can.
So when you're looking for opinions or even just for honest answers, I feel like Mentors really have the ability to shine. It's true that they don't have all the information that paid staff members have access to, but they can be far more open with the information that they do have. Additionally, Mentors usually are quite passionate about the game, they are really playing with all of you (even if you don't know the name of their personal chars) so they do understand very well where players are coming from with complaints and concerns. I personally don't have any problem with what Kalvan said in this thread because he was honest and straight-forward. It's not the kind of sugar-coated or canned response you might have gotten from a CM or Support member, but in my opinion it's just as valuable because it isn't.
All that being said, I hope some people will consider applying for the Mentor openings if you want to get your foot in the door of the gaming industry. I think I'm allowed to say this: Gameforge is actually where I started a few years back (although not with RoM) and it gave me fantastic opportunities. I'm no longer with this company, but since then I've worked with a lot of big-name companies and games in a range of positions in the industry. Definitely don't pass this one over just because it's a volunteer position. It's literally one of the best places to start.
