New player Stuck. Is some of my things missing on my load of this game. Cooking Merchant? Action house?

Been playing for a few weeks, trying to learn on my own. A lot to figure out. But I literally have looked every for a cooking merchant to get a darn fish or apple, flour ect. Also merchant for glass potion bottle. Have been all over, and my Auction house is Valley of Prep is just blank when I open, no supplies or anything, just a list of categories. I have went well out of the area, took the transport plane in Elven Island to (not sure where I was, but seemed more like a place that is for much later in my experience. I have googled online, looked everywhere. At a loss. NPC?? Please help. Thank you.

I don't know where they are in the Elven Island, but there's a cooking merchant in Varanas East and an alchemy merchant in Varanas West. Varanas is where the elf plane takes you to.

For auction house, I strongly recommend an addon called Advanced Auctionhouse, which makes the interface much more manageable.

Incidentally, you should probably find a nice guild when you can. Most will answer questions like this if asked.

Thank you Kindly Heron. I did go to Varanas, did not seem to find what I was looking for. Will head there again. As for the Guild, I am trying to get some experience in this game before that. Far from ready to be any use as of yet. ;) Someday. :)

Please don't worry about being useful before joining a guild.
Trying to learn so many aspects of the game on your own can be frustrating.
There are lots of newbie friendly guilds that would be more than happy to advise you.

to use the auction house you must first select a category then hit search.

go to interface settings and turn on "show NPC Names" in Character Information. Hop over to Health Bar and turn off "NPC Health Bar". Click OK.

Now run over to east and west Varanas, look under all NPC names, there should be titles under most. you are looking for "Alchemy Merchant" (or maybe its supplier can't remember) and "Cooking Merchant".

can also open your map in Varanas (press M). there are helpful legends that show you the locations of various NPCs. In the map your are looking for "Alchemist" and "Cook"
