Creating Statted Items Part A

So, we all see items with lots of green, yellow and red stats when inspecting other people's equipment. Where the heck do they get it? The answer is simple. It's made by players.

You can of course simply go to the auction house (AH) and buy some, but that stuff is EXPENSIVE. You should start to think about making your own.

How do you do that? It's pretty easy once you get the hang of it. First order of business is at level 10 go to Varanas Class hall and get that transmuter activated! You will also need charges to go into it. You'll get 10 free ones to get started shortly, you can buy them with diamonds, or phirius tokens, so click that gift shop icon and start saving!

Now we've got the basics done, you're ready to go. Let's say you're a warrior. You like axes right? Of course you do. Let's get a nice weapon going here. First, we have to find one. Go to the AH and look for items your level or slightly below. Here's one! Didn't cost much either.

Notice the durability is over 100? This gives you a +20% bonus on all stats. Yes. That's a good thing. You will always want to try and find a clean item (with no stats underneath the description) that is OD (over durability). If the durability is in white, it's a substandard item for the most part and wait until you find an OD one. Best OD is 115-125, because it allows for equipment damage.

Ok. It's off to Varanas. You'll see why in a second.

Go to the Southwest corner and you'll see three guys sitting in a line.

We want to talk to the guy I highlighted. We'll talk about the others in another post. When talking, ask what he has for sale. You'll see this screen pop up. Yes, he's the fusion stone seller.

For purposes of this post, I'm just going to take the second one down on the Left side. I'm looking to quickly get three identical fusion stones. When first starting out, be prepared to buy about 15 of these before you get 3 identical ones. I just created a new toon to be nothing but a carrier for fusion stones and eventually mana stones. The new toon should be able to access the mailbox, the AH, and the housemaid.

AWESOME! I have finally found three identical fusion stones! They all look like this.

I will need three items to combine with the three fusion stones that have DIFFERENT stats. Since I'm making a warrior weapon, I'd like to have Stamina and Strength. Let's head over to the AH and see what's available.....

After some lengthy searching, I've found three items that are suitable. Doesn't matter if you can use them or not, we're just ripping a stat off them. They should have a single stat, or a yellow one. AND ONLY ONE.

Here they are:

Power X stat is strength, Strength X is for strength, and Stamina X is for Stamina. Perfect!

You should now have the item you want to stat, three identical fusion stones, and three items similar to the above, but with the stats you want on your gear. Now the fun part.

Open your inventory by pressing "B" or whatever hotkey you've designated for your inventory. We're looking for

Hitting that button will open this window:

Note the charges in red. Once these hit zero, you will have to get more. Now place one of the fusion stones in a slot, and one of the items you want to rip a stat from. Once you have confirmed it is a correct in the preview window, press "confirm".

Notice that this is a tier 3 mana stone. Make sure that all of the items you have to rip stats from will give you a tier 3. Higher level items may give you a tier 4, and lower level items will give you a tier 2 or even a tier 1! You cannot combine different tiers on the same item you want to stat. ALWAYS verify the preview! Ok, let's do the other two.

Now, you should have three tier 3 mana stones. Let's load them in with the item you want to stat....

Double check the preview, verify that you have six stats, including the three you originally ripped from the other three items, and press "Confirm". Congratulations. You now have something nice that looks like this:

Some basic rules of thumb. Fusion stones all have different stats, if you are making a warrior weapon, you might want to pick 12k fusion stones that have slightly more endearing stats than intelligence, or dexterity. Shop. Shop. Shop. Pay attention to what you're buying.

Buy items to stat that you can use immediately. Blues are preferred if they are clean, or even purples that are clean, since the different colors give higher bonuses and abilities. Most you see will be white. Also remember that blue and purple also cost much more to begin with.

Once you make an item, it's NOT BOUND. You can easily sell it in the AH once you upgrade or buy a better piece of gear. It's a good investment.

You should think about having at least 500k before starting this, since the initial purchase of fusion stones to get three identical may well run you 250k!

Items like this are fairly easy to sell in the AH and command between 150-350k. Good profit ratio. Want to craft to sell? Check the AH and find out what there is NOT a lot of. These will then sell faster. Currently it's Belts and Boots. Cloaks are good too.

Cheers and hope you enjoyed this guide!

General Statting Part B

Decided to post Part B from our guild website.

This post we will go into Yellow Statting. Still dirty statting because we're using Fusion Stones purchased from in-game vendors. After doing lots of quests, and such, and since I'm a packrat, I frequently end up with low grade yellow statted items Such as these three.

After looking over a few of these, since I was making guides tonight, I decided to give a brief overview of what do do with these. With green stats, they are ranked from I to XII. Generally yellow stats are crap unless they are VI or VII or even VIII, when they can actually serve some purpose. Since we have Dex on two of these, and some stamina, I decided to make a beginner crossbow. Appears scouts like Dexterity.

This didn't sell on the AH, so I canceled the auction, and sent it to my statting guru. I hopped over to my fusion stone storage toon, and promptly found three identical fusion stones. They were this:

I double checked that all these items would give me similar mana stones.

And then finally ended up with this:

Now, was this a waste of four charges and 40k for the fusion stones? Yes and no. I would glady pay 40k to have the images to do this second part of the statting guide. I can probably and will probably sell this in the AH for about 100k. Most importantly, you can see that yellow stats transfer the same as green stats. The important part to note is that yellow has two inherent abilities while green only has one. This is what makes the yellows so desirable when you start farming for yellow stats VII and VIII.

Notice that the item itself jumped from Tier 1 to Tier 3 because Tier 3 mana stones were used to stat this. Had I ended up with good yellow stats, I would have most likely ended up with 3x Tier 4 mana stones, further enhancing this level 8 noobie bow.

Bear in mind that this will work with ANY yellow stats, and of course this is still considered "dirty statting"

And hey, I ended up with a bonus since this crossbow had a rune hole to begin with! ROFL.

Hope you enjoyed this one and stay tuned for the next installment.

I think this is the wrong forum. It should be in community guides, nor crafting, because statting an item is not really part of crafting unless you craft the parts which you are using for statting.

Couple comments...

1) Advanced Auction House is absolutely a must-have addon for statting. Why? Because you can search by a whole number of useful factors. You want a level 30-35 leather gloves with dura over 105 and zero stats? Specify those parameters to the search and you will get them.

In particular, a lot of people are selling Fusion Stones there. So, specify that you want a Fusion Stone with +3 stamina and +3 strength, and you get couple dozen candidates. Then just pick three with the same third trash stat and you get your three identical stones cheaper than rolling dice at the vendor.

2) To make tier 3 mana stones, you need level 43+ items. While at level 43 you are not really a newbie, it makes some sense to use the quest reward items for crafting your gear. Why? Several main reasons...

a) They are tier 3 which is what you really should use to make mana stones.
b) They are almost uniformly 1 green stat items, and that green stat is of a decent level (like VIII or IX), enough for your first statted gear.
c) They are "free". You get them for quests and there are too many of them to use. They are bound, so not saleable. So, what else are you going to do with them? They are not as good as higher level green or yellow stats, sure, but when you can make a green-statted item for under $50K, can't expect much. Heck, you can make them just for resale.

3) While this happens very rarely, I have seen the cases where an item has 2 good stats and doesn't cost a whole lot. Those items can be used for statting. The general idea of dirty statting is that you make 3 mana stones with 3 junk stats and 3 good stats. The usual way is to have one good stat per stone. But, it doesn't have to be one good stat per stone, even though it is how that usually works. If you use item with 2 good stats to make a mana stone, you can make the other mana stone with zero good stats, using a cheap 2K zero-stat tier 3 item from a vendor. That way your final set of mana stones has 3 good stats and none of the good stats get pushed out.

Would highly recommend posting this in the guide section. This is very well written and illustrated. Looks like a lot of effort went into this... thus it'd be nice if it was seen by those who would not really look in crafting forums to see this.

There are already two guids to the AT there no need for another one plus those go more in depth than this one.... No offence but this has already been done and there is no need for another one but over all it is a good guide.

What if the item you want to add stats to already has some on it?

For example, I have some wings with 3 added stats, but I hear I can have up to 6, how would I do this?

Great effort, nice additions with the pictures and delivering the context in a more approachable way, instead of technical jargon. Although there are already good guides, one linked in my sig, but this is a good effort none the less.

Very nice and dedicated guide. Easy to understand. Could use a bit more options like using the AH to your benefit. Over all, nice job.

So I'll need to use purified fushion stones from the store to make another 3 mana stones of the same tier as my wings (4) with only 3 stats, preferably the same?

Vycious you will need three diffrent stones of as you say t4 or higher with one stat on them each other wise you will run the chance of loosing the three current stats you have on there already thats why i said to use puries so you dont get the trash stats...

I thought this guide was Great for Newbie Dummies like me. I've read 3 of the other more comprehensive arcane transmuting guides, but this guide helped me more because it contained less technical jargon.

One thing I'd like to see added to this guide is how do I get more AT charges (in terms of gold cost, diamonds, etc.), and how many total AT charges does it cost to make an item?

13

Friday, January 14th 2011, 7:39pm

The part which has always confused me in those guides is that they really cover in details how to do this, but not nearly as much why. Why am I doing these steps?

So, here is my take on such explanation. Hope it is clear... as usual, some things that make sense once you understand them are hard to explain to someone who doesn't yet.

Here is the explanation I wrote for the underlying principles of why statting is done the way it is done

Introduction overview

There are several ways in which a piece of gear is better than standard

1) High Durability. If item has over 100 durability, it gets 20% bonus to its stats. Durability can't be improved permanently, so over-100 items are highly valuable. They are often called OD or over-dura
2) High Rarity. Standard is white, then it goes green, blue, purple and orange. Again, can't be improved.
3) High Tier. Tier adds 10% per level to item base. Tier can be improved.
4) High Refinement. Using refining jewels, the item can be refined up to +12. Higher level refinement requires item shop jewels. Refinement can be improved.
5) High Statting. Armor and weapon can have 6 stats attached to it. Stats come in rank (from I to XII) and in colors - green, yellow and orange. Green stat improves one attribute, yellow improves two, and orange improves three. Stats can be improved.
6) Runes. Items have up to 4 rune slots and runes can be inserted into those slots. Runes can be improved.

This guide will focus on statting. It is usually the best way to improve a piece of gear. It can be combined with tiering item, but usually that is prohibitively expensive, so pick one or the other. Both statted and tiered items can be refined and have runes, so statting and tiering are only two incompatible improvements.

Statting Process.

The process of putting stats of items consists of 4 steps

a) Item #1 + Fusion Stone #1 + AT Charge --> Mana Stone #1
b) Item #2 + Fusion Stone #2 + AT Charge --> Mana Stone #2
c) Item #3 + Fusion Stone #3 + AT Charge --> Mana Stone #3
d) Mana Stone #1 + Mana Stone #2 + Mana Stone #3 + Item #4 + AT Charge --> Item #4 with new stats. This last step only works if all three mana stones are same tier. Tier on mana stone comes from the item, so be extra careful which items you use, or you end up with incompatible set of Mana stones

Item #4 with new stats is the end product - the item that you will actually wear or wield.

In steps a, b, c above, the stats from both Fusion Stone and Item transfer to the mana stone. Likewise, in step d, the stats from all 3 mana stones and Item #4 transfer to the new #4 item.

Unfortunately, there are only 6 stats that can be held on the item. And when adding stats the system picks 6 worst stats. So, the goal of proper transmutting is to make sure that as many good stats get on item as possible.

Dirty Statting.

For dirty statting, we will use Fusion Stones from the vendor. Almost all of those Fusion Stones come with 3 bad low-level stats on it, the so-called "dirty stats". They are usually level I or II, so they don't help you much. With three fusion stones, that means we have up to 9 of those low-level stats getting into the final stat pool. That's not good, since we only can up to 6 stats, and we already have 9 dirty ones.

We need to reduce that number from 9 to something lower. How do we reduce it? Well, what happens is that the item or stone can't have the same stat twice. If the same stat comes from two or three different sources, you still only get it once. That means, for example, that if Fusion Stone #1 and Fusion Stone #2 both had Wisdom I stat, the final stat pool only has Wisdom I once. In that case, since Wisdom I comes from more than one source, fusion stones contribute only 8 dirty stats.

So, our aim is to take advantage of this rule. We need to minimize number of dirty stats, by selecting all three Fusion stones with *exact same set* of 3 dirty stats. All of these dirty stats will end up on final item, but since they are the same, there will be only three of them total from all three stones. That leaves us with space in our six-stat pool to put three good stats.

The usual source of good stats are items #1, #2 and #3 with one good stat each. They should be high level green stats (meaning the ones of IX level or better) for your first set of items. You will need each good stat to be unique. Same as with dirty stats, only one clean stat with same name gets onto the final item.

The stats are matched on their names, not the attributes they improve. That means you can't have two "Stamina X" stats. You should pick "Stamina X" and "Stamina XI", or you can pick a stamina stat with another name, like "Physique X". Even though they are both +stamina stats and both are X, they have different names so they count separately.

Your item #4, the one that you will actually wear should be stat-free and clean. You also want an over-dura one. People list clean overdura items on AH all the time, so you should have little trouble finding one. Finally, I would recommend items that don't bind on equip. While they might not be as good of a base as bind-on-equip ones, when you outgrow that item, you can sell it without having to buy an unbinder.

There are other ways to get 3 good stats on item, but they are less frequent. If your target item #4 already has a single good stat you like, you can reduce the pool of stats that come from steps (a), (b) or (c) to just five. To do that, use stat-free Item #1. That would mean you get your 3 good stats from Item #2, Item #3 and your usable item #4. Alternatively, you can let your pool of stats to grow over 6 stats and let one of the stats "fall off". That is sub-optimal since the stats that fall off are the best stats - but can be done with careful planning.

Once your character levels, you can make better dirty-statted gear. You can get better Item #4s. You can use yellow stats instead of green ones. Or you can get higher level green stats you like.

Clean Statting

The main problem with dirty statting is that out of 6 stats on the item, you have three dirty ones, thus limiting the number of good stats to three. Those dirty stats come from your Fusion stones and there is no way to get rid of them. Well, the reason they are there is because you use cheap vendor fusion stones. If you had better fusion stones, they would contribute fewer dirty stats, leaving you with more room in your 6-stat pool for good stats.

The mid-level fusion stones have dirty stats, but less than three. That can happen because the stats on vendor stones are random. So if your random roll picked "Stamina I", "Wisdom I" and "Wisdom I", you only get "Wisdom I" once. That means your fusion stone has 2 dirty stats instead of usual 3, leaving you more room for clean stats. Get three such stones with exact same 2 dirty stats and you can have 4 good stats on your final item. It is even possible to have only one dirty stat on vendor fusion stone.

The best fusion stones have no dirty stats at all. They are sold in item shop, and you get a few of them in your gift bag as you level. They are called "Purified Fusion Stones" or "puri"s, and with no dirty stats on them, they allow 6 clean stats to be on your item #4. They are very expensive, though.

Current prices on dirty stones on auction house are about 10-12K for 3-stat ones, about 50-60K for 2-stat ones. Price of a puri at item shop is 125 diamonds for a 5-pack, which means 25 diamonds for one. At the standard price of 10K gold per diamond, puri is then worth 250K.

Buying Stats

Usually, you can buy items for Item #1, Item #2 and Item #3 on the auction house that have a single green stat of level X, for about 10-12K. At high enough level, you also get a lot of quest reward items with X stats, so that can be another source.

Items with single yellow stat are more expensive, of course, selling up to 4-5 millions for some of the best ones. Also, since items are often bound (and can't be easily sold), but mana stones aren't bound, a lot of people will use a puri to rip off a yellow stat onto a mana stone and then sell that mana stone.

In steps a, b, c above, the stats from both Fusion Stone and Item transfer to the mana stone. Likewise, in step d, the stats from all 3 mana stones and Item #4 transfer to the new #4 item.

Unfortunately, there are only 6 stats that can be held on the item. And the system picks 6 worst stats. So, the goal of proper transmutting is to make sure that there are as few bad stats as possible.

There are other ways to get 3 good stats on item. If your target item #4 already has a stat you like, you can reduce the pool of stats that come in steps (a), (b) or (c) to just 5.
