Healy F2P guide to ROM endgame

Before I start getting further into the guide, i want to mention to the reader that this is an ENDGAME guide and that a decent knowledge of the game might be required to have a good understanding of it. If you are new to the game i would recommend to visit other guides explaining the main features of the game and some class guides to learn about the class you play. This guide has for main purpose to explain what it takes to become endgame (pve) as F2P and how to reach that goal by giving efficient ways of making money and cost efficient, easy to farm on your own budget builds. If you just started playing or do not have the ambition of becoming endgame this might not be the guide for you although it might contain some usefull information. I do not claim that been endgame is the only way to have fun in rom, it is one of many.
start of the guide

I was actually surprised by the number of posts saying ROM endgame wasn’t doable as free to play or at least not without spending some money into it at first. We all know it is very doable to stay endgame as free to play if you are already endgame, but a lot of people seem to think making the jump to endgame as free to play is not really doable. I just want to start by saying it is totally doable and I’ll explain how further in the guide. First I’ll explain what it means to be free to play then I’ll say what it takes to be endgame on rom and explain how to get those things. I’ll post examples of budget builds for some of the common dps classes and finally I’ll present myself for those who never heard of me.

Table of content
1. What it means to be F2P
2. What you need to run endgame
3. How to create wealth as F2P
4. Examples of viable budget builds
5. Who am I?

1. What it means to be F2P

Been free to play means you don’t spend any money into the game. In a game like runes of magic or any MMO really there are 2 types of resources a player has access to: time and money. When a player is free to play it means he only has access to one of them and it tends to also be the more limited one. What that means is that if a player wants to succeed as F2P he needs to not only spend a fair amount of time playing the game, but also that he should also use it efficiently. In one sentence you want to be spending time working on your gear and you want to invest that time the best way possible.

2. What you need to run endgame

Here is the main reason there are so many diverging opinions concerning endgame. Most people when they think about it they picture the perfect t9 all orange stated gear with t9 runes. Truth is very few people actually have that gear and those who do usually don’t replace it for a while after making it so it’s only like that for a level cap. Other truth is you don’t need that kind of gear to be relevant in runs. I think many would be surprised to learn that t8 all yellow gear made with bumpers and t7 runes is good enough to actually pull your weight in hard mode runs. For the context of this guide here is what I will mean by endgame. A player is endgame viable if you were to replace every player in his role by someone like him in the hardest instances been run and the party would still succeed and run smoothly.

Why is there so few endgamers?

My answer to that question is that reaching endgame requires a lot of dedication and knowledge and most players either do not feel like the efforts required to reach endgame are worth it or do not have the knowledge required to get the most out of their time and toon. This guide aims to provide the required knowledge to reach endgame and make it more a matter of do I want to put X effort into the game to reach that status or not.

not only about gear!

You can have the best gear that can be made, if you don’t buff properly you won’t get the most out of it and will end up disappointed with your dps. Here is a little list of the must have to carry your weight in endgame runs. Those requirements are mainly for dps since they need much better gear to perform in runs compare to the other roles. Tank requirements are pretty similar to the dps ones aside from the stats where it is actually less restrictive.

Gear requirements:
- Plus 19-20 weapon (t12)
- Plus19-20 rings
- Plus 19-20 necklace
- Plus 16 gear pieces that gives you pa/ma
- 6/0 stat pattern (by that I mean no stam) no lower than current best bag stat
- 4 optimal runes per piece (t10 raid/curse, t9 weapon runes, t7 other runes)
- 4 piece set + damage pants crit/pa(or ma) gear for the rest.( If you are m/w you will also need to make a 16 pieces stam/str set).

Buffs requirement:
- Housemaid 6%
- Hall of earth (3%) if open
- Chaos vortex (3%) if open
- 4% all attributes wedding food
- 7% main attribute wedding food
- 2 and 3% all attributes zodiacs
- lvl 50 pet with casting/attack speed, physical/magicall attack, crit damage maxed
- Transformation potion (giant gingerbread or giant snowman)
- lvl 95 pa/ma/pdam or mdam food w/e you are using
- Guild castle attack tower buff
- Mem 1h buff
- If you are a magic user you will usually have the responsibility to bring your own d/wd, p/s and m/p.
- Fairy tale title
- You are also expected to have the skills in your rotation and buffs maxed or close to maxed
- Bring at least one musical instrument (lute or tambourine)
- Ironblood is also necessary if you want to compete for top scrut otherwise you can be useful with other siege titles.
- High enough weapon level to not miss the boss all the time.

These go on top of the usual hero and housemaids and all the stuff you use during burns. I won’t touch on buffs rotation for burns in this guide; it comes with learning your class (please refer to class guides). Class knowledge is just as important as gear and buffs you use. It is also important to note that not every class is viable in PVE in the current state of the game. Also, certain viable classes are easier to perform with then others and will do more damage with similar gear.
Quick ordered list of viable DPS class for PVE: W/S, W/WD, WD/W, R/M, S/WD, S/R, M/W, CH/R, W/M

3. How to create wealth as F2P

Looks like there is a lot of stuff one needs to get to run endgame instances, how to get all these things? Let first take a look at what items can’t be farmed and need to be bought, then the ones you can get on your own and what are the efficient ways of farming the items you can farm and finally how to make money for those things you need to buy.

For a F2P player there are 2 types of items, things that can be farmed and things that need to be bought. Most of the time, you’ll be farming for those need to be farmed items. The needs to be bought items are:
- Runes(diamond seller)
- Plus 16 plussing(diamond seller)
- 3rd and 4th rune slots(ruby seller)
- Wedding food(diamond seller only during valentines sale)
- Standard running pots like hero, stim, spirit water, pdam food, etc. (crafters)
- Crafted gear(crafters)
- 4 pieces hm set (endgamers)
- Puries (diamond sellers)
- Transfo pots(diamond seller only during anniversary, Halloween, xmass)

Just want to touch on the hard mode gear before moving on to the items you can farm by yourself, if you are not running hard mode instances on a regular basis buy UNDERDURA items, they are much cheaper (free to 5m your abl most of the time) you’ll never use enough hammers for it to not be worth and if you do it means you are running endgame content and in that case you are on the endgame train and should have no trouble making money. Also, no need to get a set from veiled crypt, grotto or even beth set is good enough for a first set of gear.

Many of the items you’ll have to get can be farmed, some are 1 time deal like getting your housemaids to 100 or getting a pet to level 50 with all the skills maxed out or getting your zodiac pets. Some others are things that will require constant work like getting stats and bumpers and tiering and what not. Here is a point form list of what you can get and where.
- Stats (shells/eoj/bags)
- Plussing 1-12 (secret garden during anniversary event)
- Pet level 50(secret garden/golden egg events it’s not worth starting with a low level pet like they say in the old guides)
- Zodiacs(secret garden during anniversary event)
- Housemaids maxed(talk to them every day until maxed)
- Some pieces of gear(mems/quest)
- Bumpers(shells/dreamland)
- Tp (dailies/dreamland)
- Charges(tokens from dailies)
- Weapon level(harpies in kashaylan)
- Instruments(Malatina games/crafting it yourself)
- Fairy tale title(do the required part of the event)
- Ironblood (siege everyday)

We are now at the interesting part of how to make money as F2P. My first comment would be that if you have only one account you are likely doing it wrong. ROM is a game where you can benefit in so many ways from having multiple accounts. I would recommend a minimum of 6 accounts with at least one set of level 50+ toons. Reason for it when you run gobs on one toon you can bring all your toons with you and make 300 shells out of a gobs run instead of the usual 50. The other reason is beceause most proof of myth events require to have level 50-53 toons to get the turn in. You’ll also realise that it is more time efficient to get a second group of alts that can run gobs then doing the other mini games since it’ll take the same time for better reward. Yes it takes time to get alts to level 50, but it’s an initial time investment that pays off over the long term. Here is a list of the possible extra income alts can bring.
- Shells (lvl 50+, gobs, the other minis do not benefit from economy of scale, requires tokens)
- eojs(requires the alts to be high level)
- secret garden (alts any level)
- proof of myth events and other GM events (only get the reward for 1 toon per account, need to atune for the instance for proof of myth events)
- tokens(for every alt you do dailies on)
- gold (mostly from dailies for every alt you do dailies on, mostly true for high level dailies)

Depending on your needs the number and levels of alts that fits you might be different. For instance, if you are relatively new to the game and getting toons to level 50 is hard maybe you want 5 alts account 6th account is your main toon with 1 level 50 toon on each for gobs and the rest of the account filled with level 1 toons you can use for secret garden.

How am I suppose to level my alts?

As far as leveling the toons go, it might be cheapest to make a mage toon and level them through tosh it is mostly optimal if you plan on getting many toons to lowish levels. An other option i've seen people do is to quest them as a group (mostly after getting them to 55 via other means). The group aproach is mostly usefull if you plan on getting your alts higher level to have access to eojs and higher level dailies. If you plan on getting few toons to low level the best might be to pay someone to do a bit of power leveling, I would recommend bringing them to level 44 in that case and making them reach 50 through dailies.

How am i suppose to do so many dailies without taking forever?

There are also a few dailies in the game that allows a time economy of scale. In other words, more alts you have less time you spend per alt. The reason for that is for some quests all the alts can turn in even if only 1 party member actually did the quest. It is usually the case of quests that requires killing. Here is a quick list of the good ones for level 44+ alts and their average time for a set 10 dailies for a group of 5 alts(it’s an average including toon swapping time when you have many groups of alts). For the first 3, it is possible to reduce the time per alt by having more accounts logged in at the same time (as long as the computer can handle it).

Lvl 44: Shut them up (9 min)
Lvl 69: demonstration battle (4 min but need to have done the questline)
Lvl 77: a little refreshment (4 min)
Lvl 90: research expert (5 min no economy of scale)

Doing dailies everyday on many alts will not only give the tokens required to run gobs,
It will also pay for your charges for your weapon and if you have enough alts finance yourself via making dirty tier stones and selling them. You will also need many alts to get enough from secret garden to pay for your plussing from 1-12 for your entire set of gear and you will need a lot of accounts with level 50 toon to get the most out of POM events. Make sure to do the ystra questline for the beginer bag (starts at Joey Klongen) for every alt as you get free puries, hammers, transport runes, advance weapon/armor driller from it. Other ways of making money include selling stats from shells, eojs (Kashaylan’s research expert).

Aside from making money via mainly dailies/gobs, it is good practice to spend as little as possible on the things you have to buy. Always try to buy items you need when they are on sale and plan in advance so you have enough until the next sale.

4. Examples of viable budget builds

Here are a couple of cheap/easy to do and endgame viable builds. I’ll present a build for w/s, r/m, s/wd and w/m.
If you were not around during the last secret garden event, i would recomend not plussing any of the pieces of gear that are presented as +12 in the budget build. They do not influence the dps, but with garden jewels +12 can be reached for free so might as well get the extra health and armor if you have the jewels available. These builds are meant to be easy to farm yourself examples of endgame viable dps gear and are not optimal. If you can do better then by all means do better. reminder damage> crit> pa/ma. Also, stats like str, dex, int are simply disguised pa/ma. to know their real value they need to be multiplied by the class ratio and any stat increasing buff susceptible to be used in run.

Closing notes

It is viable to be F2P and endgame on ROM as long as you know what you are doing, taking advantage of economy of scale, getting the most out of pom and secret garden events, spending your money in a smart way. Although I’m mainly talking about endgame dps requirement, the basic of F2P income remains true regardless of the class. Remember that it takes time to make gear, it’s a lot of dailies, lot of minis, lot of eojs and mem farming and that it’s all about making the everyday small progress. The first set of gear is always the hardest, after that things get easier since there is no need to rebuy runes and you get secondary income from selling the pieces you are replacing.

5. Who am I?

Hi everyone I’m Healy started playing my current toons during 82 level cap and have always been free to play. I have been playing on Artemis, now Mithras, mostly in Tarrasque and for the past 3 months PPK. I mainly play 2 toons Tankyhealy and Soppy and have both of them reasonably geared. I believe my dps gear is competitive and my healer gear is viable as far as endgame is concerned. Although I’ve only been in PPK for 3 months I’ve been part of endgame-ish (2nd hardest instance) pugs for almost 2 years. I’ve tried to learn just about as much as I can about all classes and hopefully the knowledge I’m sharing in this guide can help some new player’s progress and get better.
