I ended up more budget wise. Since this is my first, and learning, got a cheaper Fire Fox. I am learning about feeding and levels etc, so it will serve as my practice run kind off.

So trying to establish a simple process :

- I went AH and got me an egg (Fire for Mage)
- I place it in one of my basic two slots, and now have a wolf.
- I feed it (via purchase food or going to the farm and questing)
- Every day get 3 eggs (see requirements) and merge to upgrade

rinse and repeat?

- I tried the egg harvest. At 20 eggs I got a golden egg. I was also ready to kill myself. This has to be the most boring thing in the universe, behind collecting resources.

- I bought some tools and got him to 20% on all 3 harvesting things. Again, boring as heck, but at least you can click Start and go get some (real) food while the pet works.

- The merging is running about 45K (3 eggs on the 15K to 18K range...)

Anyway, if this is it, its going to take a while before he grows because I can't stand that farm too much.

I can't seem to find it but out of all the info this guide has, it doesn't have the stats for each elemental color.

For example neutral points in all stats, etc. What are the others?

egg colors and stats

First to answer your question:

http://www.theromwiki.com/Magic_Pets

this is a great list i have linked to in the "Of eggs and skins" section which covers this topic so well i didn't bother to copy paste it/type it up myself.

On another note - i have been on a ticket marathon to have the support team move my guide from within the belly of this thread to it's own thread. Unfortunately the ticket has been closed without further notice after two weeks of waiting for a solution.

The only thing that the ticket did was to change the original title of this thread - which i apologize to the author for. The title it was changed to was meant to be the title of the new thread once my guide would be moved. Unfortunately even after various e-ails to clarify this misunderstanding it doesn't seem to get resolved.

Hey guys, how do I talk to my pet? Is always saying stuff. One time a small window came up and I was able to select an answer, but I don't know how that came up or if my interface is hiding it or what... ??

That was a "pet event", those appear after the pet has been summoned for a while. It's a semi-random, minimum of 1 hour, checked in 10 minute intervals (so you have to have it out for 60 minutes, if nothing happens, come back in 10, if nothing happens...come back in 10...etc)

There's a list of what events happen, and what you get from each response.

EDIT: the normal "say" bubble stuff is just flavor text.

Also, you can actually do the one quest to get a third slot open. Then take 3 low-level pets and merge them into a medium level pet, and then merge the medium level pet into your high-level pet (so its like 9 merges in one day).

First, the quest. I seem to remember going into this before and abandoning it. That would mean I should be able to do it again, I hope. This is from the pet guy in Varanas, right? I know I ended up with a turkey dinner in my bag and couldn't figure out where it came from.

So right now I have two slots. So what I do is I buy 3 eggs (under my pets level, same skill (fire)) and merge each into him. You say (if I get my extra slot), I could get 9 lows, join them into three mediums, and then join those into him? Can I remove his egg while I do this with 3 slots?

I tried to merge a pet by doing that clicking the big blue button when I was ready and it told me I needed the ticket.

Are you sure you didn't click the "pair merging" button? Toggling over to pair merging requires a ticket. Clicking the button doesn't.

('course, I guess if you somehow are in pair merging, used/moved the ticket, then clicked the blue button, you may get an error about not having a ticket until you switch back over to single merging)

My pet is level 50...all my skills are maxed, my TP is maxed, my Training is maxed, my Aptitude is maxed...what do I do now? Is there anything that you can do with TP or Training now?

Unlock more breeding slots and raise a different pet?

Why did you bother increasing (much less maxing) your TP and Training after your skills were already maxed?

I had my TP maxed when my pet was in level 40 something. I had not realized that skills maxed at 5. I thought it would go higher.

Ouch. Yup, that happens in these MMO games where the publisher relies 99.996% on the player community to document the game for them.

Sit tight on that pet, when chapters 4 and 5 are release, maybe they will raise the level cap on pets, too. Of course, unless it was a Holy egg to begin with, and you did not raise it from level 1 or 2, with what you have learned both from your mistakes and from reading about other's mistakes, you can probably raise a much better pet with much higher assists values. Just sayin'

New to pets

Hey everyone,

I'm new to raising pets.

From reading the many forum posts on the 2 main guides, I gather that there are two ways to reaching 100 aptitude:

merging or chain merging pets with higher aptitude (how do I chain merge?)
or
trade in golden eggs for +1 aptitude potion.

I was wondering which way is best to allow my pet to reach 100 aptitude while still being very low level to benefit most from future levels?

Also what kind of pet is good for a rogue/knight if I want to dps and tank sometimes?

You need a combination, I think to get the best results. I've used a combination of merges, golden egg potions to move my pet from a mid-70s apt at 14-15, to 99+ at level 18 (I'm impatient about leveling :-P).

Chain merging gives you lots of training points to cash in for aptitude. You start with, I think, three egg slots?

Get a bunch of low-level rune pet eggs. Merge a few rune pet into another, when he's done for the day, merge him into a different one, repeat...

As far as the elemental type, you'll want a Holy Pet Egg, of the Darkness element, it gives Dex, Str, and Stam.

The active skills aren't all that useful, IMO, but they vary by species. Here's a list to look at for the PERFECT pet though.

Highest Apt, minimum XP... Need 2 free slots (in addition to the slot for the pet(s) you're keeping

*Get 2 (maybe 3) 95+apt/lvl 1 rune pets. (skippable, if too expensive... most of these pets *are* extremely overpriced. Last time I checked the AH, the prices were such that since you'd only gain at best 4 points from the first 95+ apt pet, and probably only a point or less from the subsequent ones, chaining regular runics (for the equivelent amount of apt) was significantly cheaper)

Merge 1 lvl 1 rune pet into another. (Do not do multiple merges into 1 egg, as that will raise it's level. IIRC a single equal lvl 1 merge won't level it up to lvl 2, but a second one will.) Then merge that rune pet into a third lvl 1 rune pet.. repeat until you eventually have a lvl 1 rune pet with ~9800 training points. (will take 98 lvl 1 rune pets)

*if* you purchased some 95+apt/lvl 1 rune pets, then merge that 9800 training point pet into your highest 95+ apt pet. Otherwise just merge into into another lvl 1 rune pet.

Merge that pet into your keeper pet. Use the training point potions-> apt to convert as many training points as possible to apt.

Repeat as neccessary*

(*Eventually on your iterations (should be at most 3), you will be less than 9 apt points away from the 100 point cap, in which case you don't need to get a full 9800 training points into your pet. I'm sure you can do the math to figure out just how many you need.)

Depending on starting apt, a lvl 1 pet should definitely be at 100 apt by lvl 4, possibly as early as lvl 2, and should even have high 80's apt (at least) by the first time it levels.

Note: Obviously, if your pet is starting out higher level, you don't need to use quite as low level pets for the chain merging, and should be able to get to 100 apt without increasing your level at all.

edit: the absolute cheapest way (both monetarily and in terms of Xp earned) to raise apt is through pet events. However it takes ~1:30 to 2 hours on average to get a pet event (w/o changing zones, or doing anything that would trigger the "pet summoning successful" message), you may not get a pet event that can raise apt, and even when you do it would only raise it by 0.01 points, so isn't really a practical way to go about earning apt.

As for the *perfect* pet, for a dex based DPS'er I'd have to say Holy Dark Fell Snake. Not sure how much that'd help for tanking though. I suspect a tank would want a different pet with aggro increasing actives, and more focus on stamina.
