I have a very important question.

How come my pet doesn't use its abilities when i fight?

Pet damage abilities don't appear to show up in the combat log, although pet buffs do. With my ferret pet it'll wave bomb, do the attack animation, and I can see the mob take the hit onscreen, but the combat log doesn't record it. The damage buff it does shows up though.

I have seen damage from my pet's attack in the combat window in the chat box. It was a crow pet doing his swoop or dive thing. I never seem to see my pets actually attack so I kept the chat window on the combat page for a while until I saw something,

Egg Slots

How does one open up more than the 2 initial egg slots. I cant seem to figure out what must be done to put more than 2 eggs in at a time.

You get a ticket that opens a third slot when you finish the training. There is as yet no known way to get additional tickets, rumor has it that they will be CS items.

You can also get pet slot tickets as a gift from your pet. I've gotten 2 gifts so far, and in the description, among many possible gifts that can fall out of the package, one can get a Pet Slot Ticket. So far, I've only gotten the Mystery gift (some sellable powders - no other use) and a loyalty food.

I've had 3 pet events. 2 got me 50xp each, 1 got me 1 loyalty. My current working theory is that they happen after a set period of time, (approximately equal to going from full nourishment to 70%) but resummoning your pet resets the clock, as does anything else (other than decreasing nourishment) that causes the "assistance" message.

Didn't think much of it at the time, but we should probably write down what gives what for these things. 50xp is pretty pointless, but 1 loyalty? That sounds good. And who knows what else you're pet can get from 'em?

I can reliably get my pet to talk by having it out with me for a little over 2 hours (if I put my lucky frog on which is a 2 hour timer it will talk soon after my frog buff wears off). I've been able to duplicate this with all my toons that have pets. Each time the pets asks a question and gives multiple choices to chose from as a response. I've gotten probably a dozen such opportunities to talk to my pets so far and the rewards vary from getting +.05 Stamina, +1 Loyalty, +.05 Wisdom, +XP, and twice I got a Gift Reward from my Pet for answering it's question.

The gifts are my favourite because from among the possible contents of the gift package I've seen that pet slot tickets are possible (not that I need more pets, but for my 1 toon that had an incompletable training quest and couldn't get his 3rd pet slot ticket, he is looking forward to getting one from his pet).

If your cavey turn in for the 3rd slot ticket failed, do the chicken quest until you get a golden egg. (or buy on AH) Just repeat the cavey capture with the Hunter and you will get a ticket still.

Thought I was up a creek when that happened to me, but I just waited a day to be elgible to use the Golden Egg and and now I am Golden. :)

There's actually another longish thread about pet events already:
http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=44415

Summary on when they occur: 60 minutes after the last Pet Event (or "Summoning Successful" message) you'll start having a chance of a pet event every 10 minutes (EXACTLY 10 minutes). Usually seems to happen for me about the 1:30 mark, but longest it's taken is 2:20. Shortest (for me) was 1:10, IIRC. (so yeah, putting your pet away to feed it then taking it out, entering your house, going into a instance, changing zones, etc. etc. will all reset the timer setting the time 'till next check to an hour.

And yeah, by this time I've probably had dozens of 'em, if you count the "uncredited" results in the post.

(Oh, and P.S. it's a pet pair merging ticket that's a possible reward, not a breeding slot ticket. Pet pair merging tickets allow you to use 2 reagent pets in a merge, though whether it does the merge sequentially or additively I haven't been able to determine, as I have 2 keeper pets, and thus only 1 free "mergable" slot)

Oops, my mistake. I didn't realize they were different things.

No worries, just didn't want you trying and trying for a gift hoping for an extra slot when it's not that sort of ticket.

Personally, my priorities are:
1. An option that hasn't yet been selected (in the referenced thread)
2. Loyalty (well, at least up until it's in the 70's)
3. Gift
4. Stats that benefit my character.
...
...
...
infinity + 1. Nourishment.

Can someone elaborate a bit on chain merging pets? I finally got a hold of a pet worth leveling, a lvl 5 Dark element Holy Egg that's a Ystra Snow Ferret (very nice active skills). So I've started with raising Aptitude first.

For aptitude, I've been feeding 3 purple Rune Pets to a blue high Aptitude rune pet, then feeding that pet to my main pet. It seems to be working pretty well, but once I did accidentally level the blue rune pet egg above my main pet (had to buy some golden eggs to level my main pet heh).

But I'm a bit uncertain on the best way to maximize the three merges per day for leveling purposes.

Depends on how many free spaces you have. If you have only a single main pet you can merge as much as you want forever.

As far as aptitude goes, as long as the pet you are merging into the main pet has more aptitude it will go up. So if your main pet is say aptitude 78, and you have 3 or 4 Apt. 80s, dont waste them by merging them together, merge them in one at a time. If they are high enough level you can merge some low level stuff together first then merge the result of those merges into the hi aptitude feeder, then merge it with the main pet. Wont raise the aptitude, but will give more pet training. And 1000 pet trainign and 3 golden eggs is a tonic that is +1 to aptitude.

I am log jammed right now, I had a purple egg, then found a nice cheap holy and am stuck going 3 merges a day until the new holy catches up to the old magical. Right now I am at 11 and 13, and 87 aptitude. But the magic one has 5000 pet training on it so as soon as I hit 13 I will be at least at 92, hopefully more as I am still merging the lowest level stuff I can into it and trying to get aptitude up. But not sure those 2 levels and a couple aptitude points is going to matter at this point. Also depends on whether I want to pay for a couple 98 aptitudes I have seen kicking around on our server. I am never the lucky one, check everyday and it seems like someone always gets a 97 or a 98 or a 99 for something ridiculous like 20K, and when I look theyre always half a million. But a 99 merged into an 87 will jump it right to 90. So all things considered it is probably 'worth' 300K for a 99 aptitude. Maybe more considering how many eggs you have to buy to get that 4000 training points worth ( 80 merges @ 50points per merge). But gold eggs are at 32-35K on our server and 4 aptitude points is at least 12 golden eggs, to trade, and there is no way around that.

Chain Merging is for gaining more training points in the least amount if days/exp.

It has little to do with leveling (other than preventing it prematurely), and only indirectly helps aptitude. (i.e. you can buy potions that convert 1000 training points into 1 aptitude) Training points are, as far as we know, only used to convert into either TP or Apt (500 to 100tp or 1000 to 1 apt), so 2500 training points will increase/learn a passive.

Personally, I find Golden Eggs pretty easy to harvest myself while I'm watching my nightly TV or w/e. I find it amusing that people are willing to pay even 20k for them. And assuming you're merging in runic pets, each one gives 100 training points, so you only need 40 of 'em for 4 points of aptitude. ('course, this is presumably also why runics tend to be more expensive, but if you aren't able to chain merge, it's *real* slow gathering training points with non-runics).

But yeah, I have a pet for both sides of my character, so until they add in ways to get additional breeding slot tickets, I can't really take advantage of chain merging either...

('Course, I haven't hatched either of the good eggs I've obtained, I'm waiting until I *can* do chain merging until I do... eventual plan is to try to get 'em to 90 gaining as much training points as possible and keeping them as low level as possible, (using chain merging to optimize the training point learning) then apt potion my way to 100.) Sadly, I now realize I wasted a lot of good eggs on what it now appears will be throwaway pets. (I thought it would be longer until I got holy versions)

But yeah, I find it pretty funny how absurdly high some people are asking for their 80+ apt eggs... almost as funny as the fact that some people are actually buying them... I mean really, 1.5 mill for a lvl 25 85apt egg or w/e? It's growth rate is 1/1/1/1/1, so not useful in itself, and at lvl 25 the apt is pretty much too late to help another egg out anyways.... and similar other mindboggling sales (or eggs FOR sale). Heck, on my server there's a lvl 38 or something egg with like 95 something apt that was initially priced at like 5 million... now it's come down to 3-4? (3 bid, 4 buyout?) Dude. Your eggs good for one thing. Training points and leveling. Same as any other random runic. At lvl 38 it is *way* too late for the apt on the egg to make ANY difference, and the training points will only be worthwhile for a lvl 38+ egg, so if anything it's worth LESS than most other garbage runics. Whatever, if he's smart he'd price it at 500k to 1 mill, probably still somebody ignorant enough to buy it at that price, whereas if he waits much longer nobody will be.

'Course, I'm obviously in no hurry to raise my eggs, so am perfectly willing to sit and wait for those ~20k high apt eggs to come up on the market and/or wait until all the early adopters with more money than sense have raised their eggs (or run out of money dumping high apt eggs into pets they end up tossing) and prices come down to meet my demand :D.

High aptitude is based on what it costs to get it under the buyers circumstance.

Any level 98 or 99 aptitude is going to have some value. Just depends on what you think it is worth. If you have an 87 aptitude pet, which is already decent, and merge a 99 aptitude pet into it youll hit 90. So basically 60 regular merges (30 rune merges) and 9 eggs. So if you trap them yourself which would take forever youll not only save time but 480K in traps alone. And 9 eggs even if theyre 'only' 20K is still 180K. So at least 660K if you didnt put any other value on it other than traps and price you could sell eggs for. And thats if your merging it with something that has a decent starting aptitude.

I have a level 15 at 99.25. I leveled it to 15 at 98.25 because I wanted the passive skills, and figured I could live with the .03 difference. But it will be 100% before it hits 16. So now I only will need pet eggs to gain pet training points to trade for TP, to raise passive skills. I will also probably start cross training lower levels together to level them up to get enough exp to raise the pet level. Simply because there arent enough pets on the market at these levels. I have been buying since day one and only have 26 or 27 over level 13 that i havent used already.

So in comparison raising aptitude is actually easier than leveling a pet, especially once that pet starts hitting the mid teens. Because then it starts taking more than 3 same level merges to raise the pet level. By the time it hits level 20 it takes over 5K to raise the level, so you'll have to find 6 level 20 pets to merge, which will still take 2 days, or hope you find enough withing 3 or 4 levels so it doesnt take a full week.

Problem is traps are so expensive that it is going to be ridiculously high priced to level a pet either on your own or buying off the AH.

Thats why I originally said that buying a higher level pet isnt such a bad otpion because they start out with decent stats to begin with. and they are basically good as is. Sure, one you buy and raise yourself will ultimately be better, but starting out with a level 6 or 7 and getting it to level 30 is going to take months probably. And cost millions in gold. But I bought a level 30 the second day pets existed for 50K for an alt and havent spent a dime on it. It was only a blue, but it still has a better assist return on one number than my gold level 15 pet I raised from level 5 has with a 99% aptitude

How do you raise the pets apptitude?

Easiest way: Merge a pet with a higher aptitude with it, the higher level pet will gain 1/4 of the difference.

Hardest/Most Expensive Way: Chain Merge low level pets (runics are best) to get 1k training points and then trade 3 Golden Eggs to get the Awakening Potion to raise aptitude by 1.

Slowest way: Pet events can slowly raise the aptitude.

Question not sure if this been asked before but can it be possible to emerge a elemental pet to a non-attribute pet passing over the elemental ability to that pet? Trying to figure this thing out.

There are no "elemental" abilities of pet. The element or lack thereof determines the growth rate (along with rarity).

You cannot pass the growth rate from one pet to another no matter what.

The only way to merge an element into a none pet would be to get the element stripping item off the Pet Hunter and it costs the merits you get from siege.

So you are telling me that I can take a Holy Pet Rune Ghost, take a Magic Pet in my case I want earth elemental and emerge this ability including element earth into the Holy Rune Ghost pet using siege badges to purchase this item from the pet hunter? Which then will make my Holy Rune Ghost have an element of earth.
