Isn't feeding high-apt-level rune eggs going to level your pet pretty fast?

Well, you are not going to feed a lot of them. A good egg would be be in 90s aptitude and give you quite a bit of boost. Also will cost a lot, although I have seen some really wild misprices by someone who doesn't understand the value of item they are selling.

What about gathering skill???

What about gathering skills? Do they transfer when you do pet merging?

Nop, your main pet will not loose/gain any gathering skills with pet merge.

golden eggs vs miller's special cake

I probably should not put this on the interwebz, but...

golden eggs give 100xp, 50 train
cakes give 10xp, 5 train

cakes are sold by npc vendors for 3.5k.

so eggs are "worth" only 35k per, or just under 3.5mil a stack of 99.

idk about other servers, but on artemis ppl are selling(and buying) eggs for 5mil+ a stack.

go buy the cakes and get same results for about 1/2 the price.

this inflation is why i wish all the high lvl players be booted from the game.-.-

Not quite correct. Cake is 10xp, 5 nourishment, 1 training. So, gold eggs are marginally better. If eggs were 35k, they would be worth getting, because you get 1000xp and 500 training, not 100 like with miller's cake.

But, training is obtainable by merging. Any cheap low level egg might not give you much XP, but it gives you 50 training. So, you can get 150 training per day just from merges, and up to 300 if you use rune eggs. So, training is not worth all that much.

The prices of gold eggs is way out of whack, indeed. On Reni, gold eggs are selling on AH for 65-70k and that is much lower than it used to be before Owenstein sale. Completely not worth it, except for the exchange purposes.

But, the really overpriced eggs are the high level merge ones. You get 1000 xp and 50 tp from merge, and that is if you find same level. You get 1000 xp and 100 tp from 350k worth of miller's cakes. That means no merge egg is worth more than 350k. Yet I usually see them selling for 2-3 times as much.

thx for catching the cake training pt. you are correct it is just 1 per. I must point out that accumalting a massive amount of train pts is not as important as one might think. I have maxed my pet skills and apt via golden eggs and have boocoo amounts of training points left over.

I also agree that feeder pets are not worth nearly as much as a lot of ppl list them for. even at the max of 1000xp/100 train(rune egg), which only the buyer would know it is that, no feeder egg should sell(or be bought) for more than 350k. I personally dont think these eggs should sell for much more than the price of the huntsman trap, which is only 8k.

fyi feeder eggs are any egg without the max growth rates. yes, I include the species with the three skills in on a lower growth rate as feeders because that is too much work to build them to a high lvl and then merge with another properly maxed holy(or +3).

Well, egg sell at different prices for different reasons. Apart from holy one that sell for many millions of gold, high aptitude and high level eggs sell better, but as you said, should not sell for more then 350K, and here they do.

Same goes for golden eggs. It was funny to watch AH when Owenstain was selling them. On Reni they were still selling for 70-80K and even higher?!

Experience Chart for Pets

Hey Rustyx, one question I always wondered and could never find a chart for was the Pet experience table or chart showing how much exp would be needed per level. From the screenshots I found online and my personal pets I think the calculation is pretty simple and verified against the pet lvls I could verify (lvls 1,2,10,12,14,25,27,29,30,31,58) It's basically a lvl 0 pet would take 1,000 exp, for each additional level it's the prior experience * 1.08. I'll try to summarize the results below:

The numbers should be right and if any are wrong let me know and I can change it, but it appears pretty solid. Lvl 58 is the highest I've seen and not sure if it's attainable or if the cap is 50 honestly as my own pet is only 31 currently. It is interesting that the same amount of experience to go from 1 - 26 combined would get you from lvl 58 to lvl 59.

Using Miller Cakes [3,500 gold per] alone to lvl a pet from 1 to 60 would take 438,274,550 gold... (with 54% of that amount coming from lvl 50 to lvl 60)

Enjoy.

Very nicely done and appears to be correct. I was wondering about it myself, since I was buying golden eggs off owenstein to level and had no idea how many to buy. I did spot checks on couple of pets I have and they match the table. I included the table in the guide and gave you credit. Excellent work...

I should rewrite some sections of it, as they are obsolete now. Miller's cake, which used to be overpriced when golden egss bots were rampant and eggs were selling for 10k, is now very much a viable leveling solution now that egg bots are gone an eggs sell for 10 times that.. Loyalty treatment has changed - they apparently fixed the aggro issue and nowdays it is very much a thing to do to get it to 100. Some other things I see can use sprucing up as well.

At 50, you can max out passive skills (assuming you have enough talent points) so going past 50 is likely not worth the huge expense. The last skill you can raise at 50 is the critical damage, going from 8% to 10%, and that to me is worth it. But then, all you get is attribute increases, and spending 2.5 billion on that seems excessive.

This is definitely the case on my server. You can always cheaply offset the talent difference by continuing to chain merge cheap low-level eggs and occasionally merging them to boost your points...but using cake for xp seems to be the way to go now, except at the low level where you can sometimes find a better deal with an equal level egg.

Thanks Rustyx, hopefully it helps people in deciding if leveling is worth it or not. And I agree Barbrady chain merging low-level eggs to boost the points is the way to go early on, but there are far fewer eggs on sale in the AH since chapter 4 was released on Reni. I remember I would buy any fire egg [wild, natural, amazing] I could find for 15k or less and the search results would net me 10 per day, now last night I checked on how many fire eggs were available in the above listed varieties and found a total of 18 eggs for sale, all between 80k to 350k for lvl ranges of 11-25.... if only I needed earth or wind because there's always plenty of those for sale.

My $'s were off Rusty, it's 400 million not 4 billion to lvl it all the way (I counted Millers cakes as giving 1 exp per instead of 10)

What sort of stat improvements should a pet give at high levels? Would +1200/1000/800 at level 60 be decent, excellent or fail?

Although it may not be considered "newbie" there is important information on the pricing of pet eggs & leveling here. In addition, recent changes making Golden Eggs bound result in a maximum of one Golden Egg per day, which has a significant effect on both raising aptitude and learning passive skills.

I suggest updating the main post accordingly.

Yeah. Just have to know what the value of the egg is actually, and what people are willing to pay for it. Nykk's link above is a good guide to that (which I should really add to the original guide in this thread, if I was not such a lazy bum and got around to it). :p

Max Pet Egg Price & 1-day Max-Level

Re-posted here from original because informational threads have a nasty habit of being purged when not in the Guides section :(

I've seen Wild, Natural, Amazing and Rune Pet Eggs selling for millions in Gold in the AH - which is ridiculous!

350,000 Gold is the Maximum you should ever pay for a merging pet egg. Here's why.

Wait .. first .. You can level your Primary Pet to the Maximum Level in just one day !!! (more about that later)

A knowledge of Pet Egg Basics, described here is assumed.

Most Pet Eggs are merged into your primary pet to increase its experience and training points. The merging egg, the Reagent, is destroyed. The higher the level of the primary, the more experience it needs to level up, making higher level eggs more in demand and thus more valuable. This includes Wild, Natural, Amazing and Rune Pet Eggs.

What is the maximum price you should ever pay for a "Reagent" pet egg? Consider another way to gain pet experience is by feeding [Miller's Special Cake]. One [Miller's Special Cake] is received each time the quest "An Easy Lay" is completed, but most people need to buy more. They are available from any Pet Hunter at a cost of 3,500 Gold. Each [Miller's Special Cake] gives:

+10 Experience Points (XP) vs 1000 (max) from feeding a same level pet egg
+1 training Point (TP) vs 50 from "merging" a pet egg (100 for Rune Pet Eggs)
+5 nourishment

100x[Miller's Special Cake] will give the same experience (1000) as "feeding" a pet egg of the same level. It is important to understand that if you feed [Miller's Special Cake] beyond 100% nourishment you STILL GET the increment for both XP and TP! Therefore, the maximum value of any pet egg used as a merging reagent can be calculated as

350,000 Gold = 3500 (cost Millers Special Cake) x 1000 (Max Merge XP) / 10 XP

for TP the maximum value is

175,000 Gold = 3500 (cost Millers Special Cake) x 50 TP (non-Rune merges) / 1 TP
350,000 Gold = 3500 (cost Millers Special Cake) x 100 TP (Rune merges) / 1 TP

The exceptions to the above are Rune Pet Eggs, Holy Pet Eggs and occassionally Magical Pet Eggs.

> Rune Pet Eggs may be worth double other Reagents because they give double Training point boost (100 vs. 50) when merged with a primary pet. Rune Pet Eggs may also be merged with any other type of primary, but the same may be said of [Miller's Special Cake]. Regardless, the maximum value of a Rune Pet Egg is still 350,000 gold.

> Holy Pet Eggs are mostly used as primary pets, not "food" for merging. Therefore, they command the highest prices and have an entirely different pricing stucture, based on supply and demand, which I will not cover here.

>Magical Pet Eggs are similar to Holy Pet Eggs in that they are often used as Primary pets by people who cannot afford the exorbantant prices of Holy Pet Eggs, but because of their lower stats are not considered as good.

Max Pet Level in Just One Day - Here's How

Have you figured it out yourself yet? It's very simple ... Keep feeding your primary pet [Miller's Special Cake] until your gold runs out. Now there IS a limitation .. the 10,000 Training point cap. You will lose all additional TP if you exceed the 10,000 cap. Not a good thing since TP are used to increase your primary pet's secondary (passive) skills and Aptitude.

However, if you can get enough Golden Eggs then the problem is solved! That is more difficult now since Golden Eggs became bound items; putting the Botters out of the Golden Egg business. Still 10,000 TP equates to 100,000 XP for "only" 35,000,000 Gold. I didn't say it was going to be cheap! How many pet levels is that? Finally, you may be able to use your imagination and figure out another solution, which I will not discuss further, but you can post to this thread.

Love those Macros

Too lazy or too boring to feed all those [Miller's Special Cake] to your primary pet? The solution is a Pet Feeding Macro (Can be used for anything that is edible by your pet but best used with Miller Cakes). This and more useful macros can be found at http://forum.us.runesofmagic.com/showthread.php?t=65697

Quoted

Code:
/script for i = 1, 99, 1 do FeedPet(#) end

Step 1) Change # to the pet slot of the pet you want to feed.
Step 2) Open the Pet Menu and Click on the Feed Button.
Step 3) Select the Food you want to eat.
Step 4) Click on the Macro and watch your pet gobble an entire stack within 1 second.

Greatly speeds up the process of feeding your pet especially when you want to level it up in a slightly cheaper fashion.

Lower Level Pet Eggs for XP-Boost

You may (should) ask "What is the MAX value of lower level pet eggs as reagents?" It depends on the RELATIVE levels of the AGENT (primary) and reagent pet eggs. You should know that for any merge

Pet XP Increment = 1000 / (AgentLevel - ReagentLevel + 1)

Example: My agent(Primary) is 30 and my Reagent(food) is 27
Therefore. the Relative Level difference is 3 (30 - 27)

Pet XP Increment = 250 = 1000 / (30 - 27 + 1) = 1000 / 4

Using a similar formula we can calculate the MAX-Value of a lower-level Reagent pet egg

Max Value (for XP) = 350,000 Gold / (AgentLevel - ReagentLevel + 1)
Example: same as before
Max Value (for XP) = 87,500 Gold = 350,000 Gold / (30 - 27 + 1)

Here is a little table to simplify

Relative Level / MAX Value (for XP)

0 350,000 Gold
1 175,000 Gold
2 116,666 Gold
3 87,500 Gold
4 70,000 Gold
5 58,333 Gold
6 50,000 Gold
9 35,000 Gold
13 25,000 Gold
19 17,500 Gold
34 10,000 Gold

In practice, I pay up to 20% to 70% less then the value in the table for XP.
But what about TP?

Lower Level Pet Eggs for TP-Boost

For TP-boost alone, I use an entirely different standard, which I call the
"Price Maintenance Standard". Although some less charitable may call it
the "Cheap SOB Standard" ;) The reasons why I NEVER pay more then
10,000 Gold for a Reagent Pet Egg to boost my Primary's TP are:

1. If I pay more, it will only encourage the gatherers/suppliers of pet eggs to raise their prices. But there is also a reason to not go too much under 10,000 gold.

2. The cost of a Huntman's trap, required to capture a pet egg, is 8,000 Gold. If pet egg gatherers/suppliers lose too much Gold each time they capture a pet egg (while hoping for that elusive Holy Pet Egg), it will erode their incentive to keep gathering/supplying me.

3. The resulting cost to me is under 200 Gold per TP (10,000 Gold / 50 TP),
far lower then the 3,500 Gold-per-TP using [Miller's Special Cake].

Disclaimer: Obtaining sufficient pet eggs for TP-boost using the "Price Maintenance Standard" does require patience and FREQUENT checking of the AH.

Educate Others

You may be able to get overpriced pet eggs in the Auction House (AH) at a reasonable
price. When you see a pet egg in the AH for more then 350,000 Gold, politely inform
the seller of the reality of RoM economics by sending them in-game mail like:

Quoted

Name (copied from AH)
Subject: WTB Your Pet Egg in AH
Text: Please read http://tinyurl.com/petegg
WTB your level ## <element> <type> pet egg for ###,### Gold.
If interested, send COD mail.

Obviously, before sending this mail replace the ##, <element>, <type> and ###,###
<Element> would be Dark, Light, Earth, Water, Fire, Wind or left blank for Rune.
<Type> would be Wild, Natural, Amazing or Rune.
