Crafting - Short and Sweet

To give some background, I am at least level 20 in everything except armor crafting. Please note: I only have one character.
Credentials:
Apprentice: Armor Crafting, Mining, Carpentry
Craftsman: Blacksmith, Cooking, Alchemy, Planting
Expert: Woodcutting, Herbalism
Master: Tailoring
And on to the Big Questions

Is it worth it? Answer: No
Should I do Tailoring/ArmorCrafting to make my own Armor? Answer: No
Should I do Carpentry/Blacksmithing to make my own Weapons? Answer: No
Planting is stupid. Answer: GTFO

Ill go down the list:

ArmorCrafting/Tailoring: No

  • They do not contain all pieces of equipment
  • Tailoring only covers Cloth, Leather is in Armorcrafting (Which should change)
  • High Level (55+) White/Green Recipes are Bind on Equip, Diminishing their resale value even further.
  • All Recipes have a very high chance to be dirty, and most Purple recipes produce very low stats for the level. Due to this, they have to be cleaned before selling for a decent value.
  • There are too few "Armor Set" Recipes, and None (with an actual set bonus other then being a set skill) past level 50. I do not include the Water Dragon armor because it does not require regular materials and has a low crafting lvl requirement.
  • Tailoring and ArmorCrafting are the lowest on the crafting totem pole Armorcrafting is lower then Tailoring, at least Tailoring gets to make capes. (Whoosh....)
  • It takes way too much to reach end game Crafting. Estimated 20 mil to get from 55 to 60. At least Alchemy and Cooking stuff stacks and is useful. Bagfuls of clothes and armor are thrown away or vendor sold because sales are so low.
  • A HoS-HoDL Comparable 55 Crafted Set recipes would be appreciated
  • A larger Variety of Purples with different Ghost stats would be beneficial.

Blacksmithing/Carpentry: No

  • High Level (56+) White Recipes are Bind on Equip, Diminishing their resale value
  • White/Blue recipes are obsolete and produce far less damage then even a quest item.
  • It takes way too much to reach end game Crafting. At least Alchemy and Cooking stuff stacks. Bagfuls of weapons are thrown away or vendor sold because sales are so low.
  • They eventually are reduced to low prices. Making the required item (Nail or otherwise) more rare would improve sales for dedicated crafters.
  • At least the End Game Crafted Weapons set a standard.
  • Crafted Shields should have less pDef then the Instance Counterpart, however every crafted shield should include the Ghost Stat: Block (Shield from KS has it, if you want to see it)
  • Shields should be in ArmorCrafting

Alchemy/Cooking: Yes

  • Important Green Recipes (+100 Rage/Focus/Energy potions and +25% attack speed) should be a high-end craftsman recipes.
  • Blue Recipes for near super human results would be a great addition for the expert level, would require short duration (e.g. +50% attack speed for 15 seconds)
  • Lower the Recipe Drop Rates on common Green Recipes
  • Slightly increase the drop rate on rare Green Recipe Drops
  • Codex and housekeeper stuffs should not be better then Crafted stuffs.
  • Stop just handing out awesome recipes (ASW, Hero Potion, etc) and make them difficult to get. Though most likey too late now.
  • Only useful if you can find good green recipes. Otherwise mediocre.

Herbalism/Mining/Woodcutting: NO
  • Seems like everyone has alt characters for these, which really brings down the worth of the profession
  • Should get 2 Whites per Cycle at a Resource Node with a chance of Green(Bonus XP) to balance out the availability vs Material Vendors
  • If this is your master choice, I salute you and will be in need of your services very soon. (I tip 50k for refining services.)

Planting: yes

  • This does not count toward the max professions, however it (Currently) cannot go past lvl 60.
  • Low startup costs ( <100k)
  • Low Upkeep (Log in once or twice a day)
  • Ridiculous amount of return after level 20 (You get to plant 10 plants instead of just 5 and you can get up to 20 - 40 mats each plant)
  • Dont use the cheap ^&(#. Go to the expert and buy the Pixie(lvl1) stuff. Its more expensive, but it reduces the Drainage by 60%. At 80%(herbs) with my drainage (2%) Ill be able to harvest the plant before it dies. (80/2 = 40 - 36 = 4 hours before completely Drained) DONT RELY ON THIS. You plant murderer.
  • Plant abusers will be reported to GM Hathore so her zombies will invade your house. If you do not win the minigame, she will take your corpse into her army. May your deity forgive you.

General

  • Purples should require a previously Crafted Item, Similar to the Windmill Sets, instead of "Chests". This would make White -> Green -> Blue -> Purple Items more unique. This is already implemented, but we should see this with sets and weapons.
  • Several other MMO games will put the name of the person who crafted the armor in the description, like a "Brand". Please incorporate this, because it is awesome.
  • The Stat on Purples should be relative to the type of item and the level. e.g. Cloth:
50-54: Illumine VII; 55-59: Illumine VIII; 60-64: Illumine IX
and no greens. Its hard enough to make them with the fiber or nail or whatever it is.
  • Planting needs to be balanced with the Gathering Skills.
  • Crafting is a Gold sink. All Crafting should be worth the investment.
  • Furniture needs to add more per bonus point. I have 390 tailoring bonus, and I bearly know it is there.

Feel Free to add anything else to my rant/informative post. I would like to see a positive change to the crafting system for all.

It takes a dedicated player to craft using one character. And if you reach Master, it is a near special moment. At least it was for me.

Also, I will humbly offer my services to create new recipes for RoM for all levels and styles of play. Just putting it out there.

For you Dedicated Crafters, I /Salute You!

Looked like a rant at first but there were some good suggestions in there.

I disagree with nerfing "other foods and pots" though. If anything the crafted ones need to be made stronger. Low level food turns noobies away from it before it becomes useful. Same for pots (also the cooldown confusion).

I'd like to see an implementation of regen food. Using only pots all the time basically makes us a bunch of pot heads. No real reason we shouldn't be able to supplement our out of combat healing.

I'm always sorry when a player leaves our game, but making a forum announcement about it is...pointless.

I have been reading these topics since I started last year, trying to learn from the experienced players and get some feedback from them on the crafting. Some I talk to in game say they do sell their stuff in the AH, but only up to certain level gear since the cost to make higher level stuff is too expensive and nets a worse return. Also I understand the let down is since you can only master one craft, you are reliant on others to provide mats at ridiculous prices or have to level alts and transfer the mats.

What's the point of knowing how to master a craft but can't gather the mats to do it? The time to gather and craft is tripled when having to do it with alts, I can't even tackle that idea...lol.

I also understand since drops yield better gear, it's kind of a waste.

I'm doing alchemy and cooking and getting numb to gathering and staring at crafting screens for hours to see I only need another 1000 potions to move up a level. I'm only lvl 12 alchemy and so far not using any potions I'm making. Until the lvl 21 Salve for 600hp, I don't use any of them. I seriously try to get motivated to craft, but it's no fun for me at all. It reminds me of when I'm at work, working on Excel spread sheets...mind numbingly boring.

I tried planting, but that didn't work for me, I can't guarantee a log in every day, let alone 2x a day to make sure my plants don't die.

The gathering skills themselves are professions. Since after master level you will need a master gatherer to refine materials for you, it is a service that should be tipped generously.

If you ask me, the gathering skills should not be counted as a crafting skill. My skills on my main toon are maxed, with herbalism going to 80, mining and woodcutting are stuck at 60, and the other crafting skills are stuck to be lower than that. Just a shame. So, to get around this problem I have a level 1 toon for each real crafting skill, Cooking, Armor, Blacksmith etc.; but with the new mats that were introduced in chapter 4, I can't even gather them all, just herbs, so now I have to level another toon's woodcutting to 70, and mining to 70, just to continue making the new recipes, or pay crazy AH prices for the mats I can't gather. Even with the gathering pot, I am not able to gather the level 69 wood and ore, the pots only get my other two gather skills to 68, that was just cruel.

Also, why aren't the white level mats used to make anything? It seems to me, white level mats should be used to make white recipes, green used to make green recipes etc....

As a level 65 Blacksmith, and very high levels for all the other but cooking I have to agree with almost everything. (disagree with gathering being a profession, make it like planting)

The crafting event helped out Blacksmithing and Carpentry alot - but really didnt help the others that much. I think one fix would be to get a AC and Tailoring sets for level 65 or 67 that fills in all of the Armour types that the Crimson Shells vendors don't carry. (and all crafting rares need good clean stats)

As far as alchemy for the event - it should be a 30 day pot for the effects.

Also there is no mention that pet gathering is still limited to 60 - same as planting.

Edit - and we are still waiting for something to occur with disenchanting / enchanting.

Gratz on master tailoring Drenn!

Just wanted to add... I think crafting is good to at least level to make instruments. Also, maybe someone can comment on how pet crafting compares to planting. I don't use it, for fear of being banned, but seems like pet crafting is king these days because of that addon. I craft with my pet, and even without the addon, if I remember to reload tools, it is a great way to get mats.

Lol was my post deleted, im sure i posted something in this thread >.>

Anyhow I'll drop another.

Yea i agree with what the OP has said. It has become much more difficult to craft items above lvl 60 due to gathering being counted as a craft. but at the very least it can be leveled.
Planting was a very good resource but since ch3 planters were not able to become masters in their profession so they are ruled out.

We are left with gatherers and codex vendors... I am great-full for the codex because at-least i can procure the mats easily enough, but we will most likely need to find 3 people to refine each material.

for now i get my kicks from the event recipes, not much work making those and the items are pretty decent :) Thanks to rw/fa for them! :D

maybe planters will get a break oneday... sigh
