Quoted from "Quaffy2;587248"

That could have been their goal anyway. Sometimes we drop scrolls on a gate just to make the other team worry about it, causing many to go back and take care of it while the rest of us set up in the middle or whatever. Either that, the guild just wanted to keep killing people for an hour, or they weren't good enough to get in regardless, i dunno.

But if most of your guild is occupied with the gate, you arent able to fully push anything.

They were pretty much a "cockroach" guild, lots of toons running around with a "push forward" strat. If we'd had more of our usual crew in siege, they wouldn't have been able to push us back to our castle and pretty much keep us occupied there. Mid and lower level toons on the "front lines" make for a target-rich environment. :D

Seeing as their main initial assault tactic was to buy up fair numbers of FoTs and put them against the gates, it shows me that their basic assault planning was flawed. Since we were already pretty much restricted to the castle, it meant that all of our healers and mages were available to take out the FoTs, almost as soon as they were placed. We did have people who went out to farm tower guards, bringing back merits which could be used to put up defensive towers. (I received a lot of those merits and put them to good use.)

As I said, they got in exactly once and manage to take out *one* proc, during the entire hour. While ultimately winning, their strats pretty much failed.

Which strat do you think is more likely to succeed--spend 300 merits on 10 FoTs for each gate (total 900 merits), or spend 300 merits each for three scroills to use on one gate, saving one scroll *and* the Herald Tornado for taking out the inner keep gate? A mage can take out all of the FoTs with Thurnderstorm, while the healers take care of the damage to the gate. Or any class with a sufficient AoE can take out stacks of FoTs. It's far more difficult to heal a gate that's been hit by a pair of scrolls.

I think I know which strat *I'd* use...

Oregonnerd, you sound like you're disappointed in us. I get this, and I kinda wish I could give you a hug. I feel you bro.

But...

Like Mal said, FoTs are an inefficient method to take down gates. Unless you're a guild of lowbees. In that case, it's possibly the best and cheapest strategy.

Thing is, it was clearly ruled "not an exploit." That makes it a tactic. We can all agree we don't like the tactic, and not use it, or we could see that there is some utility to the tactic, and agree to disagree.

PPK used fots on one of our gates last night. Which just goes to show that it had utility to them- they were harrying us on all three gates, and they knew we didn't have enough heals for all three gates. I think Kanuu just likes running me around lol. For them, the fots were a feint- which gate are we going to scroll?? That way we couldn't concentrate our heals in just one place. It was a legitimate, and good, tactic. Mind you, we had a mage take them out before they got the gate down more than 5%, but it accomplished its purpose.

I didn't get upset that they used fots. Not like getting upset at PPK gets you anywhere anyway lol, that's like shaking your fist at an avalanche. But my point is, if we spent even 5 fewer seconds stressing over the other teams "rightness" or "wrongness" we'd have 5 more seconds to actually ENJOY siege.

Getting angry about fots is pretty much as futile as shaking your fist at PPK. It's an avalanche. Just relax and enjoy the ride. :)
