Hi all,
Quick little guide on how we do times in Runes of Magic.
Servertime
Server time for the US servers is Pacific time. In the summer months, this is UTC-8. In the winter months, this is UTC-7. Meaning, subtract that amount of hours from whatever time it is in London.
Note: Usually if there is no timezone mentioned, assume servertime.
CET/CEST
CET stands for Central European Time. CEST is Central Standard European Time. You hear this a lot because the Gameforge offices are located in CET/CEST. It is commonly identified as UTC+1. Meaning whatever time it is in London, ADD 1 hour to it.
EU events are commonly referred in CET/CEST. This is servertime for all the EU servers.
If you want to convert Pacific Time to Gameforge office time, ADD 9 hours to the time. Likewise if you want to convert the other way, SUBTRACT 9 hours.
Do note that clocks change in Germany and America at different times. Usually Germany is a week or two later when switching the clocks around.
Converting times for different situations
Events in RoM will either be mentioned in "Servertime" or "CET/CEST". Depending on what is announced and what timezone you find yourself in, you can use this nifty little chart to convert easily:
Time zones If event is... | Hawaiian Time | Alaskan Time | Pacific Time | Mountain Time | Central Time | Eastern Time | Atlantic Time | Germany | Western AU Time | AU Central Time | AU Eastern Time |
|---|
| | | | | | | | | | | |
In Pacific Time/ Servertime | -2h | -1h | +0h | +1h | +2h | +3h | +4h | +9h | +16h | +17h | +18h
|
| In CET/CEST | -10h | -9h | -8h | -7h | -6h | -5h | -4h | +1h | +8h | +9h | +10h
|
Note that the AU times with converting to Australia are offset because of the hemisphere differences. If it is summer in US, it is winter in AU, so the times for AU above you would actually subtract an hour in the AU winter months.
How to use this table:
* Look on the far left for what time the event is announced in.
* Look down the table until you find your timezone. You can
look here for a map of all timezones.
* Once you find your timezone, add or subtract along that column the time to get your time where the event will start.
Example: Event starts at 15:00 servertime and you live in Sydney, Australia. Sydney is in the Eastern AU timezone, so you would add 18h to that time. 15:00 + 18h = 09:00 next day in Sydney, assuming Sydney is in Summer time (if it were in Winter, subtract 1h).
Hopefully this helps a bit.
