Forsaken Abbey Walkthrough

I know this seems silly, so long after Forsaken Abbey (FA) was first introduced, but it could still be useful to new players, and I'm amazed at times how many non-newbies don't know all of the steps to FA.

This presents all of the steps (in order as necessary) to completing all of the quests to FA, but does not contain boss strats. I'm sure that can be found elsewhere in the forums. [Edit: nasira added some strats later in this thread.]

So here goes:

1. This portion occurs in Silverspring (and can be done in any order):
1a. Accept "Ancarlos Research Note" quest from Yarandor in Eye of Wisdom in Varanas

1b. Accept "Hermit of the Lake of Magic Mist" from Musa in Tagena

- Turn-in "Hermit of the Lake of Magic Mist" to Hugo on the island in the Lake of Magic Mist
- Accept "Releasing Ancalon" from Hugo in Silverspring; receive Ancalon's Barrette

1c. Accept "Ambassador Who Acts Improperly" from Hork in Vender Caravan
2. This portion occurs in and around Forsaken Abbey outside the instance (in this order):
2a. Accept "Apprentice's Request" from Pete along the road to FA
2b. Go into the FA outer building
- Turn-in "Ambassador Who acts improperly" to Aymar
- Accept "Clean up the Environment" from Aymar
- Accept "The Forsaken Abbey" from Aymar
2c. Go down the stairs by Aymar into the non-instance part of FA
- Kill Rat-eared Bats and Carrion Spiders for "Clean up the Environment"
- Kill non-elite Obsessive Shadow --> loot Funerary Bracelet for "Apprentice's Request"
- Get Old Diary from side room on the right for "The Forsaken Abbey"
2d. Turn in "Clean up the Environment" and "The Forsaken Abbey" to Aymar
2e. Accept "Documents in Darkness" quest from Aymar
3. This portion relates to the front section of the actual FA instance:
3a. Go down stairs on the left
- If necessary, manipulate the candlestick to open the trap door and go down the revealed stairs
- Enter the instance portal
3b. Accept "Spirit Gathering Circles" from Chris
- Kill all four Necromages throughout the instance for "Spirit Gathering Circles"
- Kill the Zombie Duke boss (spawns when all four Necromages are dead)
- Turn in " Spirit Gathering Circles" to Luanne
3c. Accept "The Secret of Evil Spirit" from Luanne
4. This portion occurs in the last room of the front and first room of the rear section of the instance:
4a. Loot "Document Pile" in corner of room -> Spawns Tied-up Researcher
- Kill Tied-Up Researcher; loot "Forsaken Abbey Documents" for "Documents in Darkness"
4b. Open zombie junk; kill ghoul
- Repeat until "Dreamland and Reality" drops for "The Secret of Evil Spirit"
4c. Go back to Luanne in the last room of the front of the instance
- Turn in "The Secret of Evil Spirit" to Luanne
- Accept "The Sole Survivor" from Luanne

5. This portion occurs in the rear section of the instance:
5a. Obtain keys to Ancalon's chamber in any order:
- Kill Flowing Chaos boss -> automatically get Green Magic Seal (key)
- Kill Cruel Eater boss -> automatically get Red Magic Seal (key)
- Kill Hollow Shell boss -> automatically get Yellow Magic Seal (key)
5b. Open the door to Ancalon's chamber with the three seals
- Kill Ancolon
- Loot "Book of Ancarlos Notes" from Ancolon
5e. Manipulate ("use") Spirit Binding Pearl toward back to release Ancolon
- Accept "Wishes of the Soul" from Ancolon; receive Spirit Binding Pearl Fragment

6. This portion occurs in Silverspring (and can be done in any order):
6a. Turn-in "Documents in Darkness" to Aymar
6b. Turn-in "Apprentice's Request" to Pete
6c. Turn-in "Releasing Ancalon", "Final Wish," and "The Sole Survivor" to Hugo
- Accept "Sorrowful Request" from Hugo
- Turn-in "Sorrowful Request" to Musa in Tagena
6d. Turn-in "Ancarlos Research Note" to Yarandor in Eye of Wisdom in Varanas
Don't forget to click "Check Title" on the Title page to get the FA Title "Forsaken Abbey Is My Backyard."
You can also get the "Nemesis of the Undead" title if "you are level 25 or below and cleared the whole thing in 30 minutes and under and you must not die during the Ancalon fight." [Thanks, oziemaster]

Believe tons of new people have no idea how to do FA. I remember I was level 19/1 W/S and I just joined SoW and they helped me get through it and I did they rest :) but this is a good guide for people who do not know. Sticky.

Oh and you only get the title if you are level 25 or below and cleared the whole thing in 30 minutes and under and you must not die during the Ancalon fight.

lets add a bit more info about the bosses..

Flowing Chaos is pretty straight forward, he can fear you ( hint: do a handstand it breaks fear faster then freewill) other then that just smack him and heal as needed.
Cruel Eater boss is a big and ugly tank of a boss, his triple attack hurts and will knock your hp down pretty quick., this will hit anyone close enough to him but mostly the tank.
Hollow Shell, this boss is a nightmare for lower lvl toons, he will yell " horrid spirits show yourselves" which will spawn zombies to attack the party members, there is no safe spot to avoid these ( even running all the way back to the start doesnt always work) and he has one nasty aoe to go along with the zombies.
And finally the witch, when you open the door take out the followers and obsessive shadows first. Mages, this boss is a pain at lower lvls, healers for you too, she will silence you over and over if you can not interrupt the spell, the plus side is she can also be silenced.. she will call for her followers to serve her, kill these quick as they heal her making the fight last even longer. Her aoe is manageable with a good healer, just watch what she is casting and start healing before she finishes her dark something or other ( sorry cant think of the name), and you should have no problems.

hope this is helpful.;)

There's actually two titles. The one you're talking about is "Nemesis of the Undead". You can also get "Forsaken Abbey Is My Backyard" for completing all the FA quests.

This is a great guide. Should be moved to the newcomer's section and stickied :)

Normally i don't care for this stuff but this is well done. Let's keep it to the top so the GTM's can see it. Really want this stickied in the guides section.

Stuck on part 3

Quoted from "trentjaspar;296861"

[Thanks, oziemaster]

I guess I'm to noob...

I killed all four Necromages along with everything else in the instance, but never saw the Zombie Duke boss and can't get to Luanne. She seems to be stuck behind a door that doesn't seem to have a way to be opened. I revisited this place at level 34/31 to get rid of the quests and just went in solo. Do certain things not happen if you are too high of a level/solo to get this quest moving?

Thanks,

Jools

Wonderful guide!

For juliet555: If the Duke won't spawn, you missed a necromage somewhere. Usually the first one in the little nook near the front of the instance is the one people miss. Once all necromages are dead, the Duke spawns. Be warned: If you leave party members behind at the Duke's spawning point when you go back to hunt missed necromages, they may die instantly upon his spawning. Have them stay well back!

I would like to add the following: In the big room with the tied-up researcher and all the zombie junk, it is vitally important that people NOT touch the research documents or zombie junk until the whole party is ready. I have taken loads of lower levels through this instance and every single time I tell them "Do NOT touch anything until I say so" only to turn around and find them running frantically from zombies they spawned.

The zombies WILL kill you. Please, please, please, people: don't touch until everyone is ready!

he's likely killing the wrong zhuridon guys.

1. to the right of the entrance.
2. second spiral staircase down ... go right, not left
3. large room just before boss 1
4. right @ spawn of boss 1

Unless the quest was bugged at the time, that sounds like you missed a necromage. The door to Luanne doesn't option till you kill Duke and Duke doesn't show up till you kill all necros. So, I would double check that they are all dead.

This is a pretty well written guide. Wish I had it back when I first made FA run. I was run by a high-level who knew it so well that he just sped through it. I spent more time trying to keep up with him than trying to figure out how FA is organized.

Which brings me to a question on the guides. EU has its own version of the guide forum (https://forum.runesofmagic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=197) and they have several well-written guides in their guide section, better than the ones I see in US guide forum. Any reason not to use those?

Oh, and people who have more than 3 classes are clinically insane.

I want to add that if your in FA for gear, don't open the treasure chests. As they lower drop rates on bosses.

Do you have any proof of that? Personally I don't believe that for a second. Methinks that is just an Urban Myth, though in all honesty its not as if there is anything good in the chests, not like TT.

i have run FA countless times and my math is that cetrex speaks the truth. ive always heard that opening the chests lowers the drop rate and i received CONSIDERABLY better drops when i stay clear of the chests. theres only a couple chests anyways so why not refrain from them and try it out :P i mean the gear does nothing for me now, but helps out the people i run in my guild, etc. when i dont open the chests, purple drops are pretty common with the bosses, and if i open the chests, im lucky to get a blue drop.

very good addition cetrex :)

That's hardly proof. It's anecdotal evidence at best. I've heard such rumors for a long time, the only reason I don't loot chests is because they're a waste of time. Heard the same things about TT and NOM.

Run enough of any instance and you'll notice sometimes the drops are good, sometimes they aren't. It's very unlikely chests have ANYTHING to do with it.

i never said there was proof. just stating my experience. ive always had better drops when not looting the chest consistantly. ive heard that about TT and NoM too. but have had alot less experience in the field in those instances to test for myself.

as an additive, theres chests in IDK as well a couple times in some of the side rooms, has anyone heard a rumor about these chests as well? id be interested to hear just for my own curiousity :P

Well in TT you can get storage chests, so it is worth looting them there.

Like nemecis, I fail to see why it would ever have been implemented that you can loot the chests or get loot from the Bosses. Why would anyone chose First Aid potions over Boss loot?

Thank you for your info, but I didn't see any math there ;) Still anecdotal evidence is better than boldly stating something with no evidence whatsoever. Just as well cetrex has no ulterior motive to posting in every thread that he can. And has been so well received in the Warrior forums among others.

I also agree with nemecis (a horrible habit of mine that I am forming) that generally one player's experience does not give a good indication of the actual drop rate (if I may paraphrase a bit). In my experience of EU players you have Mages that swear blind that stats drop 90/10 in favour of physical classes in any given instance, and then someone else that int/mattk dropped four times out of five in the same instance for them.

I imagine (though I am guessing) that if you are of the opinion that looting chests lowers your chance of actual good loot, then you stopped doing so very quickly - giving you a very small sample to work with. Subjectivity is a bit... er, difficult thing to deal with.
