"This cannot be equipped!"

I am constantly getting a red error message saying "This cannot be equipped!" It appears in the upper center of my screen, similar to the messages "you cannot see target from here" or the obstacle in your way message.
It started happening yesterday after I was linking items in my bank to guild chat, in an effort to clean my bank out. I get the message any time I click a pot, when I click on an item to purchase from an NPC, every time I bundle a mat or craft food, etc. I've logged out completely and logged back in, twice.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this are very appreciated.

And the items are still in your back pack?
Try moving themto your *Bank* or Vault if you are in a Guild.
Then log out and pull them back.

I'm not sure what you mean about the items. Yesterday, I linked several pieces of gear, asking a couple guildies if they thought they were worth holding onto or not. I moved the "junk" into my backpack from the bank, then sold. That's about when I noticed this error message.

The message is strange though, as it doesn't seem to have anything to do with what's in my bags, bank, or anything else. So far these are the times I see it happen:

1) I was clicking on the pet hunter's inventory window, purchasing spades for pet harvesting. Every time I click, I get the message.
2) I hit the "collect" button on my pet's harvesting screen, that message is spammed (instantly I see it 3 times).
3) I am bundling mats.... the bar fills on the bottom of the screen, each time it fills (completing a bundle), I get that message.
4) I am crafting Serenstum... again, each time one is complete, I get that message.
5) I click to use a pot or food, the message is spammed (on my screen 3 times)
6) I talk to my housemaid, when I choose "crafting" to get new pots, I get the message 3 times.
7) I click the icon to get on my mount, I get the message 3 times.
8) I try to buy anything from a vendor, I get the message 3 times.

I thought maybe there was a problem with my keyboard - I blew it out with canned air. When that didn't work I took it apart and cleaned each key before putting it back together. That did not work either.

I am at a loss as to what to try next. :(

I had this once a long time ago, it was the addon auto equip ammo and it was trying to equip the lv 1 bound arrows that you get when starting the game?
I've also since discovered that the autoequipammo addon is now defunct as I no longer have the addon and it seems the game now auto equips ammo of the same variety if it's in your bp :)

So try removing the stones/knives/arrows from your equipment slots and put them in your bp, throw them out then see if it still does it.

I ahd the same issue with that addon LONG ago. Something else that may cause this is another addon that auto loots for you. Not sure which one I was using that gave me that error but since then I only use a couple addons and haven't had any problems with them due to the addons not beign for equipping items at all. Check your addons and either remove or disable any that relate to equipping items or looting items. If you do this one addon at a time you should find the offending one.

Thank you both so much for the reply. Suprra - I did have the autoequipammo addon, and when you said that, the lightbulb went off. Right around the time this problem started, one of my backpacks had expired - the one that holds all of my ammo. I removed the addon, and poof! no more error message. Now I just have to wait for a diamond sale so I can get at my arrows again! lol
