Your computers memory has exceeded a healthy level

I have googled and searched the forum, twice, and have not found an answer to this, if i missed it sorry, but the search forum engine produced no results, neither did CRTL+F and pasting that in so here it is ;)

So i have been getting this error every time i play for more than half an hour. my friend also has the same problem. I thought it might have been my addon usage, but my friend does not use addons...

Both of us have better than average PCs im running Windows 7 with 8 gigs of ram, he is running vista with 8 gigs of ram. The only reason im asking this is because we will get intermittent disconnects and they are generally at times when, of course, we are doing something important (i.e. just laid a huntsman trap to catch a cavy / just started a big fight)

Basically I want to know is it something we can fix on our end??? or is there some sort of memory leak in the game??

It's a game issue. Been going on since CH 5 release.

I get it on my machine when client.exe surpasses using about 1.25 gig of ram. ie pretty much anytime I port somewhere and am just standing around.

I have 8 gig and am no where near using it all.

BTW, reinstalling with the new client download resolved the wather issues but did nothing for the memory issues nor the new crashing issues.

As I suggested elsewhere, you might want to open the Windows Task Manager (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) and click on both the Processes and Services tabs to take a look at what all's running and how much system RAM is actually in use. You might be surprised to find out that the difference between the nominal amount of system RAM that's installed, when compared with the amount that's actually in use can be quite small.

Quite an eye-opener for me. And my options are either to reduce the number of open apps that I continually have running, or invest in another 8GB of system RAM. Neither are attractive at the moment...

This issue is not total resources being used, it is a given instance of ROM exceeding 1.3 gig in ram.

Some data for you:

PC runs at 27% of 8gig being used before ROM opened.

Situation 1:

Instance 1 - 1.21 gig used by client toon in Dalanis Snoop.

Ported around till I got error message, client.exe at 1.33gig. Ram usage 41%.

Situation 2:

4 instances of ROM running. PC at 80% RAM used.

Instance 1 - 1.14 gig used by client toon in FLAC (new zone)

Instance 2 - 1.13 gig used by client toon in Varanas East

Instance 3 - 1.05 gig used by client toon in Varanas East

Instance 4 - 1.00 gig used by client toon in Varanas East

No memory error till I port around and get the 1st instance to exceed 1.3 gig.

Once I click "Ok" I haven't been able to get the message to come up again until the client has been closed and reopened.

Clearly it's not an overall resource issue.

Correct it's a client issue more then a available resource issue i have 16GB ram on my home PC and 8GB on my work PC and when the client hit's around 1.3GB+ i get the error.

As I've posted elsewhere, and as stated it here. It is the client, it always has been the client. I've always seen my client crash with 99% chance after client.exe had exceeded 1.5gb of memory usage.

This warning is just the Chapter V lazy way of telling you that the client is going to crash because it can't figure out how to cleanup after itself.

i must say this message is somewhat annoying

There is an add-on, MemoryWarningMuffler, from curse that can make it so the message pops up in a subtle slate gray in gen chat tab instead of a pop-up. ipeacefrog is correct, the message only comes up when Runes exceeds 1 gig+ use of RAM. It doesn't matter HOW much RAM you have, what version of Windows you're running, or any of that. So just know it is NOT your computer, it's Runes of Magic. They added this message with the patch, probably not realizing quite how often their game reaches such levels. lol

Thanks a lot guys lol, I was thinking that it couldn't be my computer because there is no way, I have never come even close to using 7gigs of ram at any one time. ipeacefrog thanks for the reasurch and such, I ran a few experiments, and my pc has the same results.

The message itself is not so bothersome as the fact that I KNOW a CRASH is close to follow :(

ipeacefrog is right, especially when:
1. I reduced my view distance to a tenth of the max and instead of crashing maybe 5 times a day, its dropped down to once.
2. In relation to point 1. Without Runes so eager load up all the trash objects scattered around every single zone and instance, the RAM usage increase drops considerably. So with that logic, why when I simply stand near some objects in the middle of central Varanas, do I get the memory warning message, when all I did was literally stand and not move?

Rom crammed too much detail, too many unnecessary objects that add RAM usage and add disk space. I'll never understand why ROM eats up over 8 GB on a hard drive when games more graphically superior don't eat up anywhere near as much RAM or HDD space.

I'm sure people have been begging for this: fix the memory leak. If people didn't crash, that alone would possibly bring back the population. Then the fail stat drawings and luck dependency that this game makes people go thru will send em away again, but that's for later.

So yeah, its the game itself and has nothing to do with my, or anyone else's PC. rhenzic right on the money lol, I had this problem with Minecraft when it was in beta, and they fixed it shortly after. In minecraft if you had the view distance set to far there would be a good chance you would get a similar error. I think it has to do with the fact that it tries to cache everything, and does not un-render things that should no longer exists to your toon. Maybe all the NPCs you encounter stay rendered and moving even though your no longer in the area, or zone? I don't know I just want the crashing to stop lol.

I can play grand theft auto IV at MAX settings, and listen to music, and look up things on the web and nothing ever slows down. Anyway, I am just hoping that this gets fixed sometime soon, as i plan to spend money on the game, and this is kinda holding me back ATM.

What I find amusing about this message & the problem it relates to is that it is widely known to players, probably because we all see signs of it every play session, you know, little things like sound effects, ambient music, instance textures (floors come to mind) that disappear so that we either relog or wait for the crash we all know is coming.

When I see posts on these forums telling us we are using inferior operating systems with poor memory management or we need to end unnecessary processes to free up more of our 8 or 16 gigs of memory so RoM can crash with even more free space I begin to understand why the memory leak has been around so long.

Just to update this since it seems to be getting worse and worse for me.

I have an expensive alienware computer specifically built just for this game - 16GBs of Dual Channel DDR3 Memory, Dual 2GB HD graphic cards, Solid State HDs, etc. And I can get that message as soon as I log in. We are talking less than 10 seconds after I log in.

It has nothing to do with the computer. I had zero problems with any other game I have ever played - only RoM.

Memory Issue July 2016 and still no answer?

Hi,
Like 95% of RoM players my PC exceeds specs. just wonder WHY this crap is still going on years later when they patch all these updates and events every month or so.

It it that hard to recode the fault YEARS later? LOL

Just annoying to have 16gb ram and 8gb gfx card. Takes the shine off even bothering to play again after being away since 2011.

Well cheers,

<removed>

Invited a few friends to play recently but they all gave up with THAT issue... :fie:

Still haven't fixed this issue after years of complaints from the players and constant crashes. But today they are spending more time and money so they can brag about putting new decorative vases in the item shop. Somebody really has their priorities screwed up.

This message usually precedes a crash. It doesn't matter how much memory you have or how recently you have removed and reinstalled the game the game is flawed and still has this problem that has been ignored for years. I do not know of one player who hasn't experienced a crash while playing this game. Far too many of the players get crashes on high end systems on a regular basis. This message is only a warning that a badly flawed game is going to crash soon. Sometimes it may not far too often will.

Log into game then hit the functions wheel bottom right of screen, click on system, then click on Video/Audio settings and put a check in box next to Deactivate high memory usage warning. Relog to save and wont see the message again. Its a issue with game has nothing to do with your pc they figured instead of trying to fix it they just add the option to hide it. This really is something that should be checked by default so new players don't freak when they see the message but guess that's asking to much from them lol.
