Quest: Enter the depths of the battlefield

If this is the wrong place, please feel free to relocate it. Doing the quest, Enter the Depths of the Battlefield - I find the dwarf, kill the phantoms around him, then he runs off down the hill and disappears with no change in the quest status. I've repeated it several times, tried changing position around him, changed classes, changed channels as suggested in another thread, but the same thing happens every time - he runs down the hill, fades away, and quest status doesn't change. I have no other quests in this area I can do, so any help would be great!

Have you tried following the dwarf after you kill the three phantoms?

Yup. He goes down the hill, stops on a little lump next to the statue, then fades away. I've tried standing on him, next to him, in front of him, and standing on the dead dwarf in that little hollow. I've done it before with a different character, so I have no idea what's making it fail this time.

I have to admit that it's been some time since I did (and completed) the quest, so my memory of it is a bit cloudy. But...

I do remember that it took several attempts to complete the quest. I usually play in channel 1 instead of allowing the client to choose the channel for me when I log in. That might be of some help in itself.

As soon as you kill the initial mobs, follow the dwarf as quickly as you can. If/when he disappears, search the area for the target body and take note of where it is. (Sorry, I don't know what it's "named", no help there.) If you have the WowMaps addon installed, mark the point on your map for future reference and orientation. In fact, travel to and from the target body several times so you will know precisely where to go.

Once you get to the target body...wait. See if the ghost mobs appear, and kill them, then wait for the quest to update. There may be a bit of a delay.

Ok, I completed the quest. Here's what I did, if it helps anyone else....

Before, I was just using thunderstorm on the dwarf and the mobs - then he would run away and fade out. This time I just used single target spells on each of the mobs, and once they died, different mobs faded in. I killed them, he ran away, I followed, and got quest complete.

Weird - and hope that that helps someone else.
